This hotel is actually above average to excellent IF you get the right room. We purchased an ocean view (different than the pricier ocean front) room. The room we were assigned was dark, depressing, and disappointing to say the least. I knew I woudn't be able to enjoy my vacation there. You could only see the ocean if you stepped to the sliding glass doors. Even so, you get an eyeful of an ugly grey building. (The Outrigger should reclassify this room - I believe it was 1130.)

I called and asked for another room, and they seemed fine to accommodate. We moved to the other side of the building (facing East), and the difference was night and day. It was a spectacular room. You could spend your whole vacation inside the room with the loud sound of the ocean and enjoy and relax! As soon as you walk in, you have a grand view of plenty of ocean. If we were taken to this room first, I would have rated this hotel a 5. But I'm giving it a lower rating to warn others, and direct them on the way to go.

Otherwise, the staff is very good at the hotel. Quite friendly, welcoming (you back to their restaurants), and not pushy on how much or little you order or how long you stay enjoying the ocean view. Two would even greet us by our last name. We were impressed with their memories.

With 4 onsite eateries, it's pretty convenient. We enjoyed the more mellow Chuck's steak house. My husband loved the location - it's in the middle of all the action in Waikiki and is right on the beach.

This is a beautiful hotel and I will start with the good things.
We loved Chucks Steak House, Duke's and The Hula Grill.
The staff was friendly and helpful. If that was all there was to review it would get high praise but the walls were paper thin.
I have stayed in hotels all over the country and I have never stayed in such a noisy hotel as this was.
The hallway to room noise is to be expected but to be able to hear the people in the next room chatting, and their televisions playing was just terrible.
They really need to do something to resolve this issue because next time we will try a different hotel.

Overal the resort was ok. With 2 restaraunts the cuisine was not overally applealing. The resort catatered to the young set, as the Lower bar/restaraunt was more for the night life drinking socializing. The greeting for new arrivals was average, nothing really welcoming you like you would find in the carribean. There was a lot of issues with the young teenagers. Loud, foul language and very disrespectful. attitude was very evident from these young adults. Some were even evicted during our stay for drinking under age.
For the middle age and older travelers, this resort is more suited for the party types.
Off the resort we would reccommend the Galaxy for very good breakfast reasonably priced also.
For other dining and good food we would recommend the Giovannies and Denny;s on the Beach walk area which was a couple of minutes form the resort...

From curbside bell service to check-in to housekeeping, everything about the Outrigger was FANTASTIC! This vacation was a gift for my father so I wanted everything to be perfect and the Outrigger never disappointed us. We stayed in an oceanfront room w/ a large closet area that was more then adequate for 3 adults. We ate at both Dukes and The Hula Grill and found their prices were not much more then what I pay in California and the food was very good. Dukes has a great salad bar! Their location to lots of shopping no matter your budget is great for those who do not rent a car and the shops open early! A shuttle bus to the Arizona Memorial can be arranged with Bell Service and the cost for round trip is very reasonable. This was our first stay with Outrigger Waikiki and we will definitely return!

We just got back from six days at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. We absolutely loved everything about it. The staff was helpful and friendly. The room was clean and smelled fresh. The view from the lanai of our partial ocean view room was very entertaining. We could see swimmers, surfers, and watch a large catamarran coming in and going back out with tourists. We ate in the Hula Grill every morning--great views of beach and Diamond Head. Food was good and fairly priced. We also ate one night at Duke's--great food but pricey. Try the Plantation Bar at happy hour for great prices on drinks and food. We hope to go back to Waikiki someday, and we will definetely stay at the Outrigger again. It really is centrally located in Waikiki--we walked everywhere. (Bring good shoes!) All in all it was a wonderful experience.
