“Will definitely stay here again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights with family early December. The things we loved about it were friendly staff, fantastic location and so close to everything, great rooms. We booked 2 Partial Ocean View rooms on level 10, the view was very good, exactly like how it was mentioned on the website. The beds were very comfortable.

We went to Maui for a few nights after staying at Outrigger Waikiki, then came back to another hotel in Honolulu, we all regret not staying at Outrigger Waikiki again, although the other hotel also had the same star rating, but it was clearly no comparison with Outrigger Waikiki.

We will be back again for sure!

My husband and I just returned from spending 7 nights at Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. Just over a year ago, we stayed at the sister property, Outrigger on the Reef, and it was a hard decision as to which property to choose. I am very happy that we chose "beach" this time. Both hotels are similar in amenities, rooms and decor, but the location here is much better. As others have said, this hotel in in the heart of Waikiki, within walking distance to most everything. The vibe at this location is also much livelier, and with Dukes right there, you have more entertainment and dining options.

Service at check-in was great and our cleaning staff was friendly and attentive, even making a point to greet us by name.

Regarding room selection, here are my observations. I booked Ocean View and when you look at the hotel diagram, you will get the impression that Ocean View rooms are located on the east (Diamond Head) facing side. However our room was on the west side, with just an ocean view from the Lanai, overlooking the roof (and AC units) of the Cheese Cake Factory and the Royal Hawaiian next door. On check-in, I was offered an upgrade to Ocean Front for a reasonable up-charge. We decided to have a look at our room first, but once I saw the situation, I returned to the desk and upgraded to Ocean Front. We were given a spectacular room on the 15th floor.
Honestly, if you're planning to stay in one of the few hotels that are directly on Waikiki Beach, you should treat yourself to the Ocean Front.

Rooms here are not large, but the space is well used and we were very comfortable. We also found it very quiet, with minimal noise from other rooms. Even on the 15th floor, you will hear music and partying from Dukes and from the properties next door, but once the door is shut, it is quiet.

It is true that the pool is small, but this is also the norm for the beach front hotels on this strip, as the main attraction is the ocean. Also know that because the pool decks and deck below (which is used at night for Dukes table service) are small, there are no umbrellas. You will have to spring $60 for a full day on the beach which includes 2 chairs and an umbrella.

Dukes is great for lunch and drinks but be sure and treat yourself to the Hula Grill for breakfast and dinner. They also have a great happy hour from 4 - 6, which includes their great mai tai for $5.75.

I am a picky traveler with high expectations and I can't find anything negative about this hotel. I will definitely return the next time I travel to Honolulu.

Room Tip: Go for Ocean Front. If you book Ocean View, ask for a higher floor on the east (Diamond Head) side...

As the name suggests, this hotel is right on the beach. So if your idea of a good time is to sit on the beach and read a book this hotel will suit. The service was good (but not great compared to other nearby hotels) and the pool was quite small (which is not ideal with large family groups). To finish on a postive note, the hotel does have a couple of nice resturants; especially dukes if you can find a table.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor and use the express lift.

Aloha Mike W. Thank you for staying at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach during your recent Hawaiian holiday. Your comments about our location, pool, service and restaurants are truly appreciated. While our hotel does not have a very large swimming pool, our pool is family-friendly with a shallow depth of 4-feet in all areas. We also provide abundant seating on our pooldecks. Guests can relax on our sun loungers and take just a few steps to reach the shore when they are in the mood for a swim or a dip into the water. Mahalo Nui Loa. Please come back and join us for another visit.

In an age of dying "good" customer service, the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach has managed to retain this much appreciated quality. This was my second time staying at the hotel, and I was just as equally pleased the second time around. The bell staff greeted us from our towncar and retrieved our luggage without even a blink when we arrived from our 12 hour flights. Check-in was a breeze, and we were pleased that our luggage was brought up to us only a minute after we entered the room ourselves. The staff was helpful throughout our stay. They managed to provide helpful information when it was needed, and they were able to accomplish this without being pushy, which is important to me. They had taxis available 24/7, and there was someone always at your beck-and-call. The location of the hotel is impecable. It is centrally situated in Waikiki across from the International Marketplace, and sandwiched between the Cheesecake Factory and the Moana Surfrider. Our room was just was we expected it to be--it was spacious, comfortable, and nicely appointed. The hotel offers several shops and restaurants. So, if there is something that you forgot, or something that you want, you have the convenience of "popping" downstairs to pickup a bottle of wine, a set of earplugs for the return plane ride, or a can of macadamea nuts as a souvenieer to take home. We tried three of the hotels restaurants, and our favorite was the Hula Grill. We never had the pleasure of dining there for lunch or dinner, but the breakfast was so good, that we ate their several times. Please stay here on your next trip to Waikiki, you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: We booked a city view room, and we still found that we had a partial ocean view from our balcony. W...

Aloha shopgirlnc. Thank you for staying at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach for the second time! We appreciate the long distances our guests have to travel in order to reach our beautiful island destination. From the moment guests arrive, our team of employees in each work department works smoothly together to ensure an efficient registration and baggage delivery. During their stay, guests can find almost anything they need without leaving the property. We have 3 full service restaurants overlooking the beach, a spa, fitness center, hair salon, showroom featuring live entertainment and numerous shops where a large variety of items can be found. We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. Mahalo Nui Loa.

Checked in late at night but had a request on hand for a higher floor room which we got, but agree with previous posts that it could be a bit of a crap shoot. Next day they upgraded us to a bigger room with a better view free of charge which was refreshing. Good customer service and a happy staff. Good location right on the beach but the chair and umbrella rentals on the beach itself were very steep (not hotel operated) so for the sake of a few feet we were quite comfortable on the hotel property. Three restaurants in the hotel, tried the Hula Grill and Dukes, both were good but nothing sensational. Dukes is extremely busy from breakfast through to late evening, if you want to eat there between 5:30-8:00pm make a reservation at least a day in advance or expect a wait. Very helpful staff at the activities desk arranged not only a rental car and luau on Oahu but our helicopter tour on the Big Island. All in a great experience, highly recommend.

My husband and i celebrated our 25th anniversary and my 50th in Hawaii.
We went to Maui first for 4 days and then checked into this amazing hotel for 7 nights in Waikiki, we were very welcomed on arrival, the lovely lady who checked us into room 622 was efficient and so professional. We were very pleased to have ocean views even though the room was not direct ocean front, it was above the Dukes restaurant, which was noisy on the Friday and Sat night but it did not bother us as we knew everyone was having a great time and the noise would eventually cease....a great place to party to live music!!!
ALL the staff were so friendly and made us feel very special, and i would like to extend a special thank you to Jackie at the Lower lobby desk who went over and beyond her duty to assist us in making our stay special giving us ideas on what we could do ...nothing was too much trouble.
The room was cleaned thoroughly every day, these cleaners were very friendly and greeted us everytime we passed in the hallway.
We enjoyed our meals and exceptional service in the Dukes & Hula Grill restaurants.
The hotel is very conveniently located in the 'strip' of Waikiki beach, everywhere is walking distance either by beach or footpath.
Mahalo for making our holiday all the more lovely and memories that will last a lifetime!

Room Tip: Ocean front and Ocean view are very different, so make it very clear to which you prefer.

I just spoke to them and it turns out they don't allow you to choose which level you are on, even if you pay now. They choose which level on the day you check in. Such a shame, it sounds lovely but I'm paying for it and will look for a hotel that lets me choose what floor/level I stay in.

Aloha Carrie B. Thank you for staying at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach during your recent Hawaiian holiday. We appreciate your inquiry about reserving a room on a specific floor for a future visit. Due to changing occupancy levels and numerous reservation requests throughout the year, we are unable to guarantee a specific room number or room location prior to the date of arrival. However, our team of dedicated Front Desk employees do take the time to review all reservation requests and will try their best to ensure that they assign the best room possible in accordance to those details. It is recommended that guests call the hotel directly at 808-923-0711 to ensure that all of their requests have been notated. Mahalo Nui Loa.
