“Most excellent stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach for 10 nights, Ocean Front room, 1026. From the first time entering into the building, we were awestruck by the beauty of the lobby. The staff were friendly and very accommodating in getting us checked in and setting us up with a few activities during our stay. This hotel was located in the heart of Waikiki, which gave us an access to EVERYTHING. (restaurant, shopping, beach etc)

Our room (1026) had a post card view of Waikiki beach, and had everything to make us comfortable. Having a free long distance call and in room WiFi was great. We ate breakfast at Dukes, Hula grill and Seattle's coffee shop, which was a definite advantage rather than having to look elsewhere. Our favourite breakfast was the breakfast buffet at Dukes. My husband ate egg's benedict 8 days in a row!. Guava passion fruit and orange beverage tasted amazing.

Beach access was through Dukes restaurant and once on the beach lounge beds, umbrellas, surfboards, were available for a nominal fee. We purchased an inflatable tube and a air mattress at ABC store.

In having access to the public laundry facility located in the hotel. we were able to pack light for our trip. This was one of our deciding factor in choosing this hotel.

During our stay, we participated in free Ti leaf lei making and ukulele lessons in the lobby of the hotel with a wonderful man, named Wally. He gave us a lot of local knowledge and insight into the Hawaiian culture. We had a great discussion and a great time.

All in all we had a truly amazing experience and could do it all over again.

Thank you for making our stay the most memorable experience of our lives.

Room Tip: Ocean Front room on higher floor is the best!

Aloha versa309. Thank you for choosing the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach and allowing us the opportunity to create a memorable vacation experience for you and your husband. Our Oceanfront rooms are one of the very best categories in the hotel. They feature spacious lanais with glass railings to maximize the magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean. Thank you for exploring the many dining options right on our property. Duke's and Hula Grill are famous for their island-inspired breakfast selections. We hope you will come back soon for another amazing visit. Mahalo.

Just back from Hawaii & can't wait to go back.

We stayed at the outrigger on the beach in Waikiki. The location of this hotel is just perfect being right on the Waikiki beach. The hotel is very busy & the pool area can be somewhat cramped, but we always managed to find a spot.

We upgraded to a deluxe part ocean view. The rooms are the same just with a better view. If you can get it the ocean views seem to have bigger balconies.

The bar in the hotel (Dukes) must be the most popular on the island - it was always very busy.

Food could be better, it's a bit mass produced & we did not always stay there for breakfast.

The people & service were all we could ask for...

Overall we will be back!

Room Tip: The rooms are all the same with the difference being the view - if you can get one that faces the be...

This was my 4th trip to Hawaii and I have tried a different hotel each time. It was my first time staying at the Outrigger and I will definitely be back!
I found this hotel to be perfectly located and it ticks all the boxes. We stayed over Halloween and had a great time.

Upgraded to a Deluxe Ocean View Room on the 9th floor for a reasonable additional cost per night and had a great view of Waikiki Beach on the Diamond Head side of the hotel. This was one of the renovated rooms – it was quiet, spacious and had a comfortable bed, quality linens and towels and nice toiletries (few and far between at some hotels of late). Most importantly, it was nice and quiet!

Staff were friendly and housekeeping faultless. Main hotel areas always clean and tidy.

Didn’t use the pool area as I’m more of a beach fan but it looked great and there were plenty of lounge chairs. Gorgeous beach out front with quite a few sea turtles amongst the swimmers. Great atmosphere. Easy to come and go between the room and beach although the elevators were pretty slow (one being fixed).

Didn’t breakfast at the hotel but had dinner at Duke’s for the always delicious Hula Pie and was very pleased that they give hotel guests priority reservations. Just call down and advise when you’d like to dine and they call you back when a table’s available. This worked perfectly as we stayed over Halloween and the restaurant was only taking outside bookings for 4:45pm or 9 pm.
Called up at 6:00pm and were in within half an hour. Excellent way to ensure you get a table easily in busy periods.

Aloha AshVee. Thank you for giving the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach a try on your 4th visit to Hawaii. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay and will be back. Our Deluxe Ocean View rooms offer a spectacular view of the beach and are so close to the water that guests can even hear the sound of the waves from their lanai. We are proud to have received numerous compliments about our bathroom amenities and toiletry products. All of our rooms feature a line of quality shampoos, conditioners, soaps, lotions and sun gels that have a tropical fragrance exclusively created for Outrigger's paradise destinations. Mahalo Nui Loa for taking the time to share your experience and feedback.

Girls trip!!! I stayed her with one of my friends for 4 nights. It is right on the beach and the pool is only 5 steps to the beach. The only negative would be that the service at the pool was very slow.
Dukes was awesome for cocktails and fish tacos! The hotel is located in the middle of the main drag so its easy to get to everything. I will be back!

Aloha AussieAb. We are delighted to hear that you had a fantastic girl's trip to Hawaii. Our hotel is ideal for a fun-filled vacation since it so conveniently located to the beach, shops and restaurants. Duke's is also one of Waikiki's most popular restaurants, famous for its good food, Barefoot Bar and live music. Please come back and join us for another exciting visit. Mahalo Nui Loa.

A Beach Front room is worth the extra dollars, the view is spectacular, like a dream.
All the elevators are extra fast, we never waited for more than a minute.
We stayed on the 12th floor (as previous reviewers said lower floors were too noisy). I wish we stayed on a lower floor so we could listen to the beautiful live hawaiian music being played more clearly, seriously it was like being in heaven.
The famous Dukes restaurant is down stairs, and you walk straight out onto the beach. Room service food was beautiful. All the shops and many restaurants all around.
This is the only hotel I would stay in in Waikiki.

Room Tip: Beach Front Room is worth the extra dollars. The buffet breakfast is the best I've ever seen in...

Aloha tara108. We are very honored to be your hotel of choice in Waikiki. Our ocean-front rooms offer the best possible views and allows guests to hear the sound of the waves right from their lanai. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, guests staying in ocean-front rooms are even treated to live Hawaiian music by local recording artists, such as Grammy winner Henry Kapono, who perfom at Duke's between 430pm-630pm. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your recent stay with us. Mahalo Nui Loa for your 5-star review.

This hotel is right on the beach, so you can easily enjoy swimming off Waikiki Beach. There is no snorkeling there, but it is a nice beach swim, though Waikiki Beach is very crowded and popular. The hotel has a nice pool and good showers/stations to rinse off sand, good beach towel service, and a bar at the pool. The negatives are the pool closes at 8pm so no swimming or hot tub activity after that - this seemed to be the custom among the hotels in the area as after 8pm everything is dedicated to dining activities.

The location is good if you want to be in Waikiki - easy walking distance to restaurants (including many excellent sushi and Japenese restaurants), you do not need to rent a car, there are shops and restaurants in the hotel, the concierge can arrange activities, it is an easy walk to local bus and trolly stops, and it is easy to walk to the Honolulu Zoo or Waikiki Aquarium. There is a lot of nearby shopping and the International Marketplace is directly across the street. It is an hour bus ride to Aloha Stadium, and a 30-40 minute bus ride to Hanauma Bay (for snorkeling). (You can arrange a tour or take a taxi instead, of course).

Due to the extremely crowded nature of Waikiki, be aware that it is not quiet. At night you need earplugs to sleep as the sound of all the bars and all the live music all along the beach wafts up to your room and you will not be able to avoid that.

Service was good for the most part here with the exception that one day we did not receive housekeeping, for no known reason, the towel attendant generally did not speak English (you are charged for each towel not returned so you want to get your receipt showing you returned it - good luck - though in the end we were not charged, we were never able to communicate and this never sure...), and the elevators were being serviced so only one or two out of three functioned, causing long lines all the time for elevators. The hotel clearly doesn't want you to take the stairs - they are hidden, and clearly intended only for staff - but in a pinch ask where they are because it beats waiting 15 minutes or more for the elevator if only one is working. One huge plus was they did not air-condition the rooms and place to be too cold - it was comfortable and clean.

Overall it was a good base camp for a vacation. Free wi-fi was offered. If I were to stay in Waikiki again I would certainly consider staying here, but be prepared for the crowds in this area as they are non-stop.

The breakfast buffet at Duke's was nothing special. We did not choose Duke's for dinner as it was standard Western fare, not really regional, and always had a line.

Aloha DAEsmae. Thank you for your informative review about our property and the accessible places of interest throughout Oahu. Your comments about the extremely crowded nature of Waikiki are accurate. The concentrated tourist district of Waikiki is Internationally known for its plethora of shopping, dining, entertainment and nightlife options. Most visitors come to experience this energetic vibe and to enjoy famous Waikiki beach. Unfortunately, some visitors seeking tranquil settings without crowds or traffic, will not find Waikiki to be the perfect vacation destination. Mahalo for sharing your experience with us. We hope to see you again.

Outrigger Waikiki is the perfect place to stay in Waikiki. We had an amazing ocean view room on the 14th floor, and the resort is right on the beach. The staff are super friendly and you don't have to leave the resort with dining and shopping options on site. Dukes is on the ground floor, looking out over the ocean - the perfect location for sunset - make sure you have a 'Lava Flow' cocktail too. Outrigger Waikiki is our home away from home!
