“Great central location - heart of honolulu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2012

We stayed here in late Dec for 5 nights. When we showed up our room wasn't ready so they upgraded us to a top floor room that had an ocean view (I paid for city view).

Room was nice. Duke's and the other restaurant here are actually good. Get there early for sunset seating. There's a pool and beach area for the hotel. You can borrow towels for the day too and take them off property, like snorkeling for example.

Less than 5 min walk to all shopping and restaurants. Also near a zoo and prime beach area.

Would stay again....

Room Tip: Top floor room was underneath a gym or something - there were a few loud banging noises at 6-7am.

Aloha GeorgeG123,

Thank you very much for your review. We are delighted to see that our staff took care of you when you arrived at our hotel. We are happy that you were able to dine and enjoy your meals at Dukes especially at Sunset. We are planning on a renovation that will take place from March 2012 till June 2012. We will upgrade of all our guest rooms, corridors and swimming pool, we are sound proofing the guest rooms and replacing the front doors. We look forward to bringing an improved Outrigger Waikiki for your next visit! Mahalo Todd Guest Services Manager

Just recently returned from two amazing weeks in Hawaii...first week in Waikiki and second one in Maui. The first we stayed with my family of three at Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. We were there for Christmas and New Years. The location was great, rooms were fine, clean and spacious for the three of us. The general staff of the hotel were good but the only concern we had was with the Pool System and Pool Attendant(s). When we checked into the hotel and upon reading the policies of hotel that were provided in the guest room we read that the Pool Lanai area would open every morning at 8:00 am and that there was nor reserving of lounge chairs. THAT IS A LIE!! The pool attendant reserved many lounge chairs every morning for select group of hotel guests. We were shocked and felt that we were not good enough for the reservations. Perhpas a tip was required but my question is "is this against hotel policy". What made matters worst was that on one day we did get down early enough to find some loungers and then when we went out to the beach for a walk around noon we came back to find our items had been removed. The pool attendant removed the items and gave them to another family. The family apparentlhy tipped him well.

It is too bad that it is he and the pool area situation that woudl prevent us from returning to this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't go for the Pool area service!!

This is a well run, very nice place to stay. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The rooms are nicely furnished with lots of drawers to put your stuff. They re-do the rooms often enough that they never look worn or run down. There is a small fridge - no microwave. The tub/shower and toilet are separate from the basin area, which I like. The only down side is the poor lighting in the basin area. Not great for putting on make-up. They do have a make-up mirror, but it doesn't help a lot. The location is right on the beach. They have a pool, but it is nothing to write home about. It isn't widely used. But there are several chaise lounges in the pool area and they are quite full with "readers and loungers". There is an extra charge for parking which is $30 a day. It is valet, but the service is fast and the valets are very personable. One year we had a group next to us that came in at 2am and continued to "party" loudly for quite a while. We let it go the first night, but when it happened again, we called down to the desk. They had someone come up within 10 minutes to quiet them down and we didn't have any further problem. This is one of our favorite places to stay.

Room Tip: We always ask for the "Diamond head side" because it's quieter. There is a driveway a...

Our family of 5 recently stayed in connecting oceanfront rooms witch had fantastic views! The location was ideal for shops, restaurants and the beach. We did not sit by the pool as there were no seats! The kids paddleboarded in the ocean only steps from the hotel.

Room Tip: oceanfront rooms were great!

We reserved this hotel at the last minute to celebrate New Years in Hawaii. Last time we were there we stayed at the Hyatt Regency across the street. I have to say I was a little concerned that this was not a major chain hotel, however, all my fears vanished once we checked in. Our room was a little small, but it worked fine. This was a great hotel in a great spot. True the pool is small and people go out at 7:45 - 8:00 am to grab a towel & lay it on a lounge chair to reserve it for later in the day. I don't agree with that way of doing things. It's one thing I would suggest they change. Other than that, it was great! We watched fireworks from the pool area on New Year's Eve. The 3 restaurants on the premises were reasonable. They even sent up a gift bag the first day we were there! No complaints here! I would recommend this hotel & would also stay here again.

Room Tip: We had a room next to the elevator so you could hear the elevator going up & down but it wasn...

My boyfriend and I stayed here from Nov 27th - Dec 11 2011. We were given room 119, and I wasn't really happy with being on the first floor for one, and two, not closer to the beach (which would be rooms ending in 21-35). But we kept it for the first night because we were too tired from our ridiculous day of flying (from Toronto). We were going to ask to be moved to a higher floor but the view actually wasnt too bad once we saw it in the morning, and I was concerned about being given a new room with a crappier view. So we just said "screw it" and kept it, seeing as how we were only going to be in there to sleep anyway. The room itself I loved, because it had a little hallway at the door so it gave us a bit more room, the bathroom was cool with the sink and closet seperated from the toilet and shower by a sliding door. The bed was comfy and the room was clean. My only complaint was that we had obnoxious neighbours who apparently didnt care that everyone could hear them through the walls and their slamming doors. They made it difficult to get a good nights sleep. I thought about calling the front desk to complain a few times, but never did.
One reason I wanted a higher floor was so that we could leave the sliding door to the balcony open as I wanted to hear the waves as much as I could, but being on the first floor this would have been a security issue, and unfortunately we could also hear the music quite clearly that was coming from the live entertainment, EVERY night, at the pool area. So we had to close the door at night.

It was great having Duke's and Hula Grill right in the hotel, the food there was GREAT, and actually we found Duke's to be the best deal for breakfast (they also had the best view of the beach, Diamond Head, and the ocean) - $15 a person for a big breakfast buffet, including endless coffee and juice. They had all the items you need - bacon, eggs, fruit, pancakes, cereal, yogurt, potatoes, french toast - and lots more including a chef station were they made omelettes to order. We found that everywhere else would be about $30 for 2 people and that didnt include coffee and juice.

Also note: if renting a car, parking is $30 a day. And its vallet parking only. And traffic in and around Waikiki and Honolulu is usually a nightmare. Be warned.

I'm not sure if we would stay in Waikiki again if we come back to Hawaii, as we got tired of it by the end of the 2 weeks (and so did our walletts), I think we would prefer a spot less busy and city-like. But if we did, I think we would choose the Outrigger for sure.

Room Tip: If you can, choose a room with numbers ending in 20-36, for example if you get the 9th floor, it wou...

We stayed in a ocean from. We were on the upper floors so the views were amazing.
The hotel is in a great location. We could walk to everything we wanted to do.
Room was great service was great. We were able to check in very early. Just an overall good time.

Room Tip: get the oceanfront. Costs more but worth it.
