“Awesome Thai Food with even better value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

Ok, this place is a LARGE hole in the wall... i believe it is the original Bangkok Chef on Oahu. The food is always tasty...

I have enjoyed all the different curry that they offer... AND PAY 3$ to $4 LESS than the competition. It is ridiculous what other Thai restaurants charge for rice ($1.50 to $2...), this place includes white(jasmine rice) or brown... you pay $0.50 for sticky rice...

I must say though, that this Bangkok Chef simple set up saves $ versus the sit-down, white plate version off of Nimitz Hwy. That space is nice to eat in... But the if you wanna save on the tip then go to the one on Nuuanu...

So add that all up... Good food... no nonsense eating area that is clean... AND you save anywhere between $3-$5 on a good portion of Thai food...

“Don't pass it up!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012 via mobile

It's not a fancy place by any means, more of a locals place. Must try the #16, a great veggie dish! Walk in and order and they bring it to you when it's ready, good service, but not really a tipping situation. Simple place - great food - good prices.

“Fresh, high quality and very tasty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2012

There are now three locations in Honolulu and I have been to all three. The taste, fresh ingredients and quality are always the same and the pricing is very reasonable. If you do take out, I would say it's a very"cheap eat". I am kind of partial to the original location. You are able to appreciate how this all started, but you must not be thinking fine dining when there. Since eating there, I have learned to love Thai food.

“Delicious, healthy, cheap Thai take-out...a hidden gem!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2012

Who knew you could get Thai food this good out of a little green garage in the middle of Nuuanu? And at under $7 per plate? Incredible. As others have mentioned, don't let the no-frills atmosphere turn you off. My family's favorite dishes are the pad thai, chicken sateh (barbequed chicken on skewers), chicken fried rice (we mix it with a side order of plain jasmine rice to make it go even farther), fried chicken wings, papaya salad, summer rolls and yellow chicken curry...just not all at once, since the servings are very generous. The service is fairly fast, but the restaurant is almost always crowded, so be prepared to wait in line. This is take-out, but if you can't wait to eat, seating is plentiful and bathrooms are available in the back.

“Good Cheap Thai Food - No Frills”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2012

I am a big fan of Bangkok Chef when I am hungry for some yummy Thai food. They have three locations (Manoa, Nuuanu (my favorite) and a new one on Nimitz).

The Nuuanu location is a no frills type of place. You can BYOB with no corkage fee. You simply order at the counter, grab a table and wait for them to call you name. The food is consistently good and always hot. Panag Curry with sticky rice is always a must. If you are on a low-carb kick order the curries "ala carte" and they seem to give you more curry in absence of the rice.
