“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

On arrival we were given a free upgrade to a partial ocean view room which was a nice start to our stay. We had interconnecting rooms on the 10th level which were clean, comfortable and fairly good value by Waikiki standards. The music from the bars below finished around 10pm every night and did not worry our kids at all. The pool area was a little bit smaller than we had hoped but it is a hotel not a resort and this is reflected in the much lower price than any of the nearby resorts! The staff were all happy to help with any queries and the fact that it is located opposite the Cheesecake Factory is a big plus!

Stayed at the Beachcomber for four nights in mid May. Check in was a breeze and the front desk more than helpful in checking when our room would be ready. Turned out to only be a 10 minute wait in the lounge. We had reserved a premium ocean room and that is exactly what we got - a great room on a high floor with a great view. Room was quite large and very comfortable. Room was also cleaned in the morning - I hate it when you go out for the day and come mid afternoon for some relaxation only to find that housekeeping still haven't been! On previous visits to Waikiki we stayed at another hotel at the other end of the beach. Much preferred the location of the Beachcomber - sure it's a little noiser but you are right in the middle of the all the action. So nice just to pop down to the beach/bar/restaurant with such ease. All the shops are really convenient too. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor.

Perfect location to get orientated in Honolulu. Not on the beachfront but it takes a 5min walk to get there. It's not grand by any means but was perfect for a small family - we just needed a comfortable clean place to stay and this was great. Pool and small outdoor spa on a moderate terrace were pretty good too with the bar just there. The best grilled chicken caesar salad at Jimmy Buffet's downstairs.

Breakfast value not too bad either.

After many trips to Hawaii and staying in a range of accomodation (from Royal Hawaiian to Sheraton to Outriggers) would totally recommend this hotel to all. Location was fantastic. Across the road from fave eating place The Cheesecake Factory. Above Macy's for late night shopping. In the middle of the main street so you didn't have far to walk in either direction to wherever you wanted/needed to go.
Amenities were very good. Small pool (but big enough for me), spa with average outside area with plenty of umbrellas. Bar just inside so could drink there in swimmers or take drink out to pool without a problem. Could also order food here from Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Restaurant (attached to hotel). Had a few meals at both bar and actual restaurant; always outstanding.
Package included 15% discount on buffet breakfast; went once; OK, filling, convenient esp if you don't know Waikiki and don't want to waste time looking for somewhere to have breakfast.
Room was a good size; have stayed in far smaller; king size bed; linens good quality; bed was a little firm for me (have a bad back so am very picky); plenty of drawers and wardrobe space; desk; 2 chairs; fridge; tea making facilities; toilet in bathroom; shower only - small to average size; safe in the room; small but adequate lanai with table and 2 chairs; free wifi in hotel and room itself which was a bonus.
Hotel also had spa treatment facilities on 2nd floor; reasonable value for $$$; not as cheap as Asia but not as dear as Australia. Mainly massages but also with a few different facials. Great Mothers' Day treat. The foot massage was glorious.
The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient as were the staff at the Expedia desk in the hotel.
My only 'gripe' was at check in. Flew in early morning. Knew that check in was 3.00pm but hoped to score an earlier check in as a priority club member and knowing that many people left at 5.00am for morning flights. Not to be and that was OK. Luck of the draw. BUT kept being told it would be an hour or 2; repeatedly told this from 8am to approx 2.30pm. Kept going away and coming back which in a sense 'wasted' a lot of time. Could have been in the pool. Did do a spot of shopping; had a drink and ate at the bar. Would have much preferred being told that there was no way a room would be available until at least 2 or 3pm. That way I could have organised my time more efficiently and profitably.Just don't b/s me!
Other than that minor hiccup, all was well. Loved the hotel. Stay there. You won't regret it. Aloha.

Room Tip: Need to be high to combat street noise.

The location is unbeatable! Right on Kalakaua Avenue with all the pricy shops- just a hop skip and a jump from the beach. Not a normal holida inn, a notch better. The fridge was not a mini bar- suited us fine. We were happy with the price/vaue offer. Just don't expect any deluxe accomodations.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for 4 nights in early May. Location was fantastic, a block from the beautiful beach and in the middle of busy Waikiki. An average Holiday Inn - comfortable beds, good sized room, fridge & coffee machine. We were on 18th floor with a partial beach view. After staying in the middle of Times Square in New York we were surprised to find the noise from the street was far more intrusive here, making sleep difficult at times. The balcony was very small & the shutters did not keep much light out. The staff were very nice with a quick check in & out. We ate breakfast at the restaurant once & it was pretty ordinary, but there were plenty of places to eat outside the hotel. Overall it was a good standard hotel & I gave it a higher rating because the location was so good.
