The lobby of this hotel is amazing, but that is the only good thing about my 3 night stay. The rooms are small, service at the restaurant and bar s-l-o-w and the pool (for such a huge hotel is a little bit bigger than a baby pool. Would not recommend this hotel to any of my friends.

We stayed just one night at this historic hotel and were blown away by the elegance of the decor, the friendliness of every staff member, and the level of service. I expected more "traffic" in the public areas, since this was during spring break. It was instead comfortable, inviting, and peaceful. There was a fellow in the registration area who greeted us and spent a lot of time just talking to us about our plans, offering good advice for our short stay. I think he, more than anyone else, impressed upon us the value of hospitality and customer service.

Have been to this property several times since honeymooning in Waikiki 38 years ago but the last few times stayed in the Tower with the ocean views. You can read the reviews of others here for the limitations of those rooms. This time we spent 5 days in a Jr. Garden Suite, 525. Clean, quiet, great bed, two distinct rooms with a door (great for early risers or people who have to work or who have children). Ordered one of the best dozen long-stemmed roses that I have ever seen from amenities section of hotel website. Bathroom is modern but on the small side but shower is much better than the Tower shower. AC operated flawlessly and was not a problem with sleeping -- this can be a problem in the Towers. SO I will return to this room next time. No worries.

My wife an I visit honolulu at least 3 times per year and always stay in the historic wing of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Each time we return the staff treat us like returning family with a warm hawaiian welcome. We usually stay in a room over looking the garden which is lovly and private. There is a gracious , old hawaiian feel to the historic wing which far exceeds any perceived short comings. This last trip we loved the renovations to the iconic Mai Tai bar and spent almost every evening there watching the sunset and enjoying the entertainment. We have already made reservations to return two more times this year.

Room Tip: our last room was a nice corner suit with a quiet garden view #131

Stayed here for a short birthday celebration with my Mom. We loved the entire experience from our lei greeting to front desk to room service guy to even the employees in the shops! (George in Tori Richard was GREAT!) EVERYONE was SO NICE and genuine. We had a garden view room but were kindly upgraded to ocean view which was breathtaking! The room had high ceilings and I loved the pink wall paper - It's so classic Hawaii and just perfect! The bed was very comfy! The bathroom was small but new and the water pressure was great after a long day at the beach! The room even had a closet/dressing area which made it seem more roomy. The only thing that we didn't get was a morning newspaper which we were told we would get and I just now realized that now. We rented beach chairs/umbrellas which was so nice! We had the 5 course meal for my birthday dinner at Azure which was outstanding... the flights of wine were never ending! :) The Royal Hawaiian has ruined me for any other hotel on the island! I will be returning on my annual girls trip soon! Mahalo for making my 40th a special one!

Room Tip: 283 was the bomb!

I'm staying in room 318, it's a corner room overlooking the garden area on one side and Sheraton lobby and parking garage on the other. It is now 3 am and I can't sleep because the restaurant "Il Lupino" that's part of Royal Hawaiian Center and is situated on the same property has been power washing sidewalks for the last 2 hours. It sounds like a lawn mower. Front desk can't do anything about it except move me to a different garden room for the night, where I'm going to hear the exact same thing. And yes, the windows ARE closed. Over the past two weeks I learned that the room is loud, you hear cars getting in and out of parking structure, guests arriving and leaving Sheraton next door, but until tonight I din't think about leaving a negative review. Three months ago I stayed in another room facing the new tower and Parking garage across the street. The view from the room was a giant A/C unit 6 feet away. VERY loud. On the plus side, you're right at the beach, the rooms are big. The negatives - smallest bathroom I have ever seen in a luxury hotel (or any hotel for that matter), no balconies, extremely noisy. Unless you can book an actual ocean view room, stay away. There are many better choices around.

Dear scubagirl137, Thank you for sharing your concerns with us. We are disappointed to learn that your stay at The Royal has been challenging due to the noise you have encountered. We sincerely apologize as the 3am power washing is simply unacceptable and are reaching out to the management of Il Lupino to discontinue this action. Meanwhile, we will reach out to you to assist in ensuring that the rest of your stay is enjoyable. Warmest aloha.
