“Over rated and has gone downhill”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

We have been coming to this resort for ten years. This is our 5th stay. The service has gone downhill. The hallways are dirty. The clientele has become more in the party mode.( loud neighbors every night. We stay in the tower which are the most premium rates. The pool is over crowded and you have the fight over the chairs to get a good seat. They charge $45 a day to sit on the beach in a lawn chair. People off the beach(not staying here) come in and use the pool and hot tub. Someone vomited in the poolside bathroom and they smell awful. It is over priced and not worth the premium price they charge anymore. Poolside burger and fries 25 and salad 35. The hotel does have character but that is the best quality.

Dear Lori U,
Thank you so very much for your loyalty to The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort.. It is with much regret that we've learned that your recent visit with us was anything less than exceptional. We truly appreciate your honest feedback regarding your experience at our pool and we've shared this with the Pool & Beach services managers for immediate follow-up and improvment. Our beach umbrella and chaise lounge rentals were recently initiated as a way assuage challenges our pool service ambassadors and guests experienced due to early morning chair holds and negative feedback we recieved by those who were unable to wake early for a chair, or who had to give up their chair when they decided to leave the beach for lunch. We again would like to thank you for your loyalty and hope to have another opportunity to welcome you to the Pink Palace of the Pacific.
Warm regards,

Iconic yes, elegant yes, over priced yes. Compared to other hotels on the strip is not great value for money. We were really surprised when we asked about using a lay low and umbrella on the beach front and were told it would be an additional cost over and above what we already thought was expensive for a room without a view.

Room Tip: Check out what else is available for the price before you decide.

The Royal Hawaiian has history and class. The 'Pink Palace' has occupied a prime position on Waikiki beach since 1927. Steeped in history, yet updated to modern standards, the Royal Hawaiian is a great choice for first time or repeat visitors to Oahu. The service is excellent and friendly. The extensive gardens give a sense of tranquility in the busy environment of Waikiki. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The junior suites in the old building are beautiful, though lacking in views, and are recommended ov...

We stayed here for 2 nights pre-cruise & 1night prior to our return flight.
The reception was all you would expect from a top class hotel. You felt you were truly welcome.
Porters carried your luggage from the shuttle & they arrived at your room without undue delay.
We had a seaview room(no balcony) in the old building. The room was clean & furnished with taste.
Breakfast was a la carte & food was perfectly cooked to our liking.
We were a little surprised that there was a charge for the hotel loungers situated on their beach.
The grounds of the hotel were excellent manicured & it was very pleasant to sit on the terarce in the evening & listen to the birds singing.
The hotel is in easy walking of many shops & restaurants.
This hotel merits its inclusion in the luxury collection, because of its elegance that is so rarely seen in many other hotels.
We would certainly stay there again if in that area.

We loved our first stay so much last year we couldn't think of staying anywhere else in Waikiki. I will make this simple, excellent stay! Front desk check in agent was great. She was friendly, made our check in quick and easy. She upgraded our room and sent us champagne for returning to stay with them. It was a great start to our vacation. Brandon, that brought our luggage up actually remembered us from last year even without us mentioning it. He is a great asset to your team. Room was nice and clean. Housekeeping was always asking us every morning if we needed anything. Offered us plenty of water, I don't think we had purchase water at all. We happened to be staying the week The Today show was filming there. The hotel invited us to join the taping. It was for hotel guests only from the inside. Non hotel guests were only allowed on the beach. They put out tables and chairs for us. It was really nice of them to let share the experience with them.

The only one thing I need to mention is the wifi in the Lokelani suite is very low to non existent. We couldn't use our ipad or anthing while in that room. We just went down to rocky chairs and hung out there before our flight.

We regret to learn that you experienced challenges with wifi and are pleased to share that we just completed an extensive wifi upgrade in all of our guest rooms. My wife and I have stayed here twice..........honeymoon and on a recent return trip. Location is great, middle of Waikiki Beach, close to shops, restaurants, etc......Hotel is very clean and upscale. Staff, service, maids are all very amiable and eager to please. I do wish the pool stayed open later, but early closings are common in Hawai'i. Highly recommend an oceanview room.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the tower if you like a nice view of Waikiki and/or Diamond Head.

Great hotel second time we stayed in The Royal Hawaiian, Waikiki. The hotel staffs are friendly; rooms are service twice daily, beautiful beachfront restaurant. Hotel is significantly quiet in busy part of city. It has a gorgeous land escape. Walking distance to shopping areas, restaurant, Waikiki Zoo and Waikiki Aquarium. We ran from the hotel to Diamond Head very morning. The Wi-Fi is included in your resort fee and they have great connections. (Most hotels in Waikiki have resort fees in addition to hotel fee & taxes) The cons, bathroom was too small but it a historical hotel with limited space. Also there is a $40 daily fee if you ask for chairs and umbrella at the hotel beach site. Overall we love the Royal Hawaiian because anything we requested it was provided to us right away. THANK YOU Royal Hawaiian!

Room Tip: Royal garden view is very quiet.
