“Pink Palace Haven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

We stayed at The Royal Hawaiian March 7-13th. Our stay was wonderful. The hotel is beautiful and has an old European feel to it. The room was clean and well maintained. The service was impeccable with special cu-dos to Wendy at the Conciege desk and Rob at poolside for great service. Also, I liked to acknowledge the young woman (whose name I did not get) who ran the pool services desk for going out of her way to care of us. The entire staff that we came in contact with always smiled and greeted us as though they knew us personally.

This hotel is in a prime location and and has an outstanding view of Diamond Head. The grounds of the hotel are lush and beautiful creating a hidden sanctuary in the middle of the hustle and buslte of Waikiki.

The only negative comment is that The Royal Hawaiian is pricey. However, I did not find it out of line with any other five star hotels where we have stayed. For those travelers who like a buffet breakfast, The Royal Hawaiian does not offer one. But, there is a breakfast buffet next door at their sister hotel, The Sheraton Waikiki.

I would definitely recommend this hotel

“Amazing Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013 via mobile

Had breakfast here and it was amazing. Sitting right on the edge of the beach and watching the waves.

Wife had the most amazing musli and i had the egg white omlet. They even serve a small shot of fruit smoothy as a palet clenzer to start.

Really would recommend heading for breakfast here or a sunset cocktail.

“So-So”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

I had high expectations for this hotel, given it's history as being one of the first hotels in Waikiki. I'll list what met and did not meet my expectations.

- Service was great. Everyone was friendly and genuine. Did not meet anyone that was not happy to see us there.
- Bed was comfortable. Very soft.
- Great location. A little hard to find at first, but once you do, it's central to everything. Hotel is situated right on the beach, so you can go straight to the beach/ocean from your room via a 5 minute walk.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of things that the hotel needs to work on.
- Carpet looked very old. Perhaps it is part of the charm of such a historic hotel, but it did not work for me.
- There is a resort fee of $35+tax. This covers items such as parking, limited phone calls, internet, and drink coupons for 2.
- Internet did not work at all on Saturday. The connection was better on Sunday, but what a disappointment. Luckily, I was did not have any tasks that couldn't be postponed until Sunday, but trying to connect on Saturday was very frustrating.
- $25 to access spa. Really? Most places cover this with the resort fee.
- Fee to use umbrella? Again, what is the resort fee for?
- Room was very small. It was cramped, especially the bathroom. Only one person will fit in the bathroom.
- Air filter is very dirty. I do not want to speak or think about this. It was truly disgusting.
- Was only provided a 1:30p check-out. As SPG Gold, they keep promoting 4p check-out as an incentive.

So would I stay at this hotel again? Maybe. The service was great and I did not find anyone that was unfriendly. But for the price of a 5 star hotel, the rooms disappoint. If the price of the hotel came down or if more services was included with the resort fee, then I would consider staying at the Royal Hawaiian again in the future.

“oasis at the Royal Hawaiian”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

In the middle of the mobs of people in Waikiki, the RH is an oasis set among tranquil green gardens and swaying palm trees. Hidden from the street by the Royal Hawaiian Shopping center and other hotels, the hotel's lovely open air halls remind you that there is still a bit of Hawaii in Waikiki. Stayed this month in a room in the ocean tower with a great view of the beach and Diamond Head. The room was clean and comfortable with maid service twice a day and lovely robes, also free Wi-Fi and water. I have stayed at most other Waikiki beachfront hotels and also been charged for a chaise lounge and umbrella on the beach. Some of the hotels don't even have beaches directly in front of them.
The Royal is the best. Stay there if you can.

“Loved the Royal Hawaiian”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

this is a belated review- my wife and I stayed at the Royal Hawaiian one year ago next week. We stayed in the tower, which offers a great view of Waikiki to Diamond Head. The room was very nicely appointed- not large but very comfortable. I called ahead a week and asked the concierge to have flowers waiting in the room for our anniversary. They arranged a beautiful bouquet that she loved.
The building and the grounds are classic Hawaii, beautiful and lush. The location is about as central to Waikiki as you can get. The MaiTai bar is a great place to watch the sunset and the people. Be sure to wander the lobby and check out the paintings of the RH when it was the only hotel on Waikiki. Very cool.
