“Perfect end to our honeymoon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2011

After visiting Maui and The Big Island we ended our honeymoon at the Royal Hawiian.

HAving stayed at other hotels (marriot in Maui, and the Fairmont on the big island) on our trip before this I can say without a doubt this was our favorite. The hotel is beautiful beyond belief. It is also amazingly relaxing with how busy Wakiki beach is. IT is on the perfect part of the beach with the most sand available and has its own beach chairs which I do not believe anywhere else has.

While everyone raves about the Halekulani I can tell you that we thought from visiting there, the Royal Hawaiian felt much more plush and luxurious. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Everyone was super nice and always smiled at us in the hallways. The service was fantastic. Anytime we asked for something to be brought to tour room it was done so promptly. Even when my wife needed band aid , they brought up some alcohol swabs and neosproin as well.

Room service was the quickest of any hotel I have been too. I generally, as a rule of thumb, feel room service is not great for quality but only for convenience. In this case the quality of the food was better then average as well.

The Surf Lani restaurant in the morning was beyond amazing. IT was the perfect way to start the day. The quality of food was great, and the service was fast (I have no idea why others complained about it being slow on here) and the atmosphere could not be better.

We stayed in the historic tower. Yes the rooms are small but you know that going in. It was recently renovatd and beautiful. Also the hand carved wooden doors was just amazing to look at.

You really feel like you are just part of history staying here.

We are more beach, then pool people. However we loved laying by this pool. It was very "chic" and just the perfect place to lay out, with the beach only a few feet behind you.

My wife also took surf lessons. Barney was very professional and my wife said it was one of the best experienes of her life. IT was very reasonably prices and it included a CD with photos as well! (another person goes out in the water to take pictures while the instructor is helping you learn to surf).

The Azure restaurant on site had amazing food and atmoshpere.

We are in love with the Royal Hawaiian and would not dream of staying anywhere else the next time we come to Honolulu,

The best way to describe this hotel is classic elegance. We stayed in the original building in an ocean front room and it was absoltuely beautiful. The room and bed were very comfortable, however, the bathroom was rather small. It would have been nice to have a seperate, well lit area for make-up....The hotel is in a great location along the beach. We never had difficulty finding a "good spot" to relax in the sun! An attendant was always available to fetch an umbrella if one was not already in place.
The staff was not only very professional but attentive, curteous, and friendly. I would return here in a heartbeat!

Since first seeing pictures of the "Pink Palace" back in the '70s when my grandmother visited Hawaii on her honeymoon (2nd marriage) I have loved the Royal Hawaiian. My husband and I honeymooned in Waikiki, too, but couldn't afford to stay here. We have taken our children to Hawaii several times, but stayed a block back from the beach. Earlier this month my husband and I returned on our own to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary, and this time we stayed at my Pink Palace. And we were not disappointed. I booked an oceanfront room in the original building, and it was spectacular. We looked out over the Mai Tai bar to Waikiki beach, and if we hadn't been so busy enjoying Waikiki, I could have sat at my window people watching all day (and night). Unfortunately we couldn't see Diamond Head from our room, but I soon got past that. The room was quite spacious, had a lovely bathroom, a walk in closet and a huge flat screen tv - which we never turned on :-)
Brekky was included in our deal, and we had wonderful mornings enjoying great food (try the eggs benedict), watching the beach wake up.
Drinks at the Mai Tai bar were very affordable, the bar staff were so nice and the location is perfect. The pool is smallish, but just right for us. We did also venture to the Helumoa Playground between the Royal Hawaiian and the Sheraton Waikiki - a freeform adventure pool with waterslides, spas and a waterfall. Brilliant! Must take the kids next time!
All the staff at the Royal Hawaiian definitely had the spirit of Aloha - they were all so friendly and eager to make sure our stay was memorable. And it certainly was. We will definitely stay here again. And the little touches helped make it special - the leis on arrival, the complimentary champagne (with their own label - wish I could get more, or just the label for a souvenier!), flower arrangement and banana bread (complete with recipe card) are all things I will long remember. In all, a beautiful place for our special occasion.
Mahalo Royal Hawaiian!

My wife & I have recently completed a 9-day stay at this hotel & loved every minute of it.

LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! This is the hotel’s biggest strength. It is steps away from the overly festive atmosphere of Kalakaua Ave. yet as soon as you enter the compound particularly the inner garden, you will be greeted by a tranquil atmosphere. It is complemented by sounds from a host of several species of birds most are native to the Islands. We had a balcony & a beach view in the new building but would have been as easily pleased with a garden view.

It probably has the largest private area beach section of Waikiki and it proved to be valuable as the public area can be crowded. The attendants are more than willing to set up towel covered lounge chairs & we always found a quiet enough area.

The snail-like Wifi transmission can be neutralized with a wired connection.

The daily resort fee ($20) was well worth it for us as we had a car throughout our stay (for our golfing outings, etc.) and used the internet (for work) daily.

The gym had an adequate selection of weights & state-of-the-art cardio equipment – just don’t expect it to be like your $40/month health club.

The Pink Palace with its majestic pink complexion is a well-run & well-managed hotel so hats off to all the staff involved in the process of making our stay blemish free.

Other noteworthy things to do (if you have a vehicle):

Lanikai Beach – on the windward side of the island: An unspoiled white sand beach (see National Geographic’s top ten beaches) with two nearby islands as a backdrop.

If you’re a golfer – play Luana Hills: a typical Pete Dye designed course i.e. deeeeep bunkers & rail ties. There is a green-to-tee drive where you go through a tropical forest. The view is breathtaking on almost every hole.

If you’re adventurous – go to Ala Moana Market in China/Asia town in downtown Honolulu: you’ll find cheaper priced merchandise, an incredible array of tropical fruits, etc.

There are several things that makes the Royal special. First and foremost is the friendly, gracious and smiling staff. Let there be no doubt that they care for you as a person and as a guest. They are there for you. They always stop, smile and greet as you move throughout the resort often time by name! Their memory is long and many have been there for years ensuring a return stay is remembered. In many hotels, I feel like a commodity - but never at the Royal. Itbis genuine and you can tell.

Second is location - the best section of Waikiki beach is out front. Just feel the sand to know the difference. It is silky soft, smooth and clean. Walk either direction a quarter mile and you can tell the difference!

Third is grace. This is a gracious looking and feeling hotel. You feel special and part of history as you move through theproperty. It simply makes you feel good .

Hotel is platinum friendly and they take good care of SPG guests.

We'll be back

This was our 9th trip in 8 years to The Royal Hawaiian. We continue to come back because of the excellent service we receive from the Royal Hawaiian staff, expecially the beach staff. Every time we come back we feel like we are coming home again. The staff remembers us by name, which is amazing considering the number of guests that visit during a year.

We love the beach services. The chaise lounges and the pink and white striped beach towels are comfortable and allow us to relax and enjoy the smells of Waikiki beach and the view of Diamond Head. Chuck and his staff are always accomodating and friendly.

The turn-down service provided by the housekeeping staff is professional and the chocolates are a tasty treat at the end of the day.

As soon as we book our trip, I begin to anticipate the taste of the Mai Tai's at the Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai bar. They are soooooo good.

Wendy took exceptional care of us during the recent Tsunami warning.

We can't wait to go back again next year for our 10th visit to the Royal Hawaiian.

I've stayed at this hotel three times in the last ten years. This is the first time after their multimillion dollar restoration. They redid the bathrooms which was sorely needed and did a good job at it. I was staying in a cheaper room ($236/night senior rate). The bed was new, but the rest of the furniture was very old furniture that had a cosmetic refinish - dark stain over old scratches. Public areas and beach are great. Food prices ridiculous - $25/person for breakfast or lunch. Close to $100/person for dinner if you include drinks. Careful with their packages that include food. You'll be paying more than if you just get a room and pay for food separately. Wifi sucks. Had to call tech support four times in four days. When it does work it is slow.

RaySF84, Mahalo for your review on your recent stay with us. We are touched by your loyalty and are pleased to hear that you liked our bathroom renovations and new bedding. We are also happy to hear that you so enjoy our beach and Royal grounds, but are sorry that you felt our food prices were high. We do all we can to keep them as low as possible, while we ensure our standards remain 5 star, and realise that food costs are high in Hawaii. We also apologize for the slow internet you experienced, which was brought to our attention and resolved. You should have no problems on your future stays with us. We hope to see you again soon, The Royal Hawaiian Team.
