“Really nice place that's worth the cost”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2011

We stayed at the kahala for two weeks. Everything was great. Although a bit dated, the upkeep in our area of the hotel was good. Very comfortable bed. Air conditioning doesn't ever completely cool down to where you set it but works enough to keep you comfortable. The bathtub is a bit small for the type of hotel, we expected deep soaker tubs but had narrow, shallow tub, which was okay. The food at the buffet breakfast was great, lots of variety to suit everyone. The place could use a second pool and hot tub as the ones they have can get crowded. Beach area is fantastic, great place for the family to swim, well protected. The staff are exceptional. If one thing would bring us back it would have to be the staff and their attentive service which is unmatched at anywhere we went in Oahu . They are genuine in their care of customers and we very much appreciated their hard work. The restaurants all have very good quality food, some of the best we sampled on Oahu , but be prepared for the high level of quality and service cost, expensive. Definitely not for the budget conscientious . There is nothing one could say negative about the kahala, you just have to accept the cost of quality if you stay.

Room Tip: If it says partial ocean view, they mean partial. Same with mountain and any other room location.

I have stayed at a lot of nice hotels but this place is different. My stay was very short so I took the first floor room they offered but even there, I had a nice view of a waterfall. The breakfast the next morning right on the lawn next to the beach was top notch. The bed was amazing, the bathroom was bigger than some hotel rooms, and the details were all taken care of. The staff all new my name. If you can afford it, this is where you want to stay in Honolulu.

Room Tip: Eat at the buffet and try to get a table outside, right at sunrise.

This is a beautiful proprerty. The grounds and common areas are terrific. The Dolphins are a real treat. The traces of when this was a Mandarin Oriental property are still visible. The room was spacious and well appointed, but the mattress was in need of replacing. This is a spot for those who want to avoid the craziness of Waikiki, but want to be4 close enough to get there easily. A winner.

You will be pinching yourself not believing the beautiful scenery & the staff that acts more like friends. The Kahala beats hands down the Fairmonts, Waldorf Astoria & my last month visit to The Taj Mahal Oberoi Amarvilas & Leeyla Palace. It was hard to leave & go home.

Room Tip: We have stayed in 2 different rooms in different areas of the property & had no issues.

A lot of people would say that there are a lot of great hotels in Honolulu but I think the Kahala resort stands above the rest. It's not just the world class rooms and service, it's the location. It's not in the busy and noisy area of Waikiki, it is located in a quiet and quite expensive area of Honolulu. Rooms are huge and comfortable the restaurant is great, the pool area is quaint, has a small kids pool. It's one of my favorite resorts even when compared to posh European Four Seasons hotels. Added bonus, fovorite resort for celebrities, our room was across from George Clooney's, never got to see him though.

No question this is the best place to stay in Honolulu. It is secluded, has a great private beach, and the service is great. The grounds are absolutely stunning, including a dolphin pool and waterfall. The only drawback is that the hotel is pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for here. The restaurants and food are great.

Everything was perfect from the moment we arrived. The hotel lobby was huge and beautiful. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful in all aspects. Booking in was easy. We had a mountain view room which was lovely although the bathroom was a little tired in places. However this didn't detract from the stunning views and overall cleanliness of the room. The bed was pure luxury. We ate in the Plumeria beach house restaurant for our complimentary breakfast and for several evening meals. The food was well presented, hot and the choice overwhelming. Portions not massive but very filling and quality excellent. We also had room service one night which was superb and really inexpensive. Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We also ate at the Seaside Grill which was very good. Towards the end of our stay, a lot of families with young children arrived which unfortunately made this quiet retreat become noisy at times. The beach was extremely close with some lovely walks nearby. We would stay here again (possibly not near Thanksgiving though). Dolphin enclosure nice to watch.

Room Tip: We would probably opt for a beach view room next time with a balcony.
