Arriving in Waikiki, I wanted to get out on the water right away that evening. The concierge at the hotel of course was pushing the sit-down dinner and a show kind of trips -- more commission, I imagine -- but I just wanted to get some wind in my face, get some nice views from the water and maybe have a few beers along the way. The Makani was exactly what I was looking for -- a two-hour sunset sail on a catamaran, two drinks included (plus an admittedly disappointing attempt at something to eat -- chicken wraps, I think -- but since the sail was from 5pm to 7pm, dinner wasn't what I was looking for anyway). Captain John himself picked me up and dropped me back in a van. I found the crew friendly enough -- not in your face friendly, but very happy to answer my questions and point things out. It was a mellow scene and I appreciated not being part of a guided tour all the time. Anyway, my experience. I see others had some issues. But I had none. Best thing I did in Waikiki.
