We took the 5 hour tour. I was able to call and confirm a spot for us the day before this trip. They picked us up at about 7am. The guy had a "Got Lost" shirt on, which was the only way I recognized him at the shuttle pickup (since he parked the hummer around the corner).
The tour group size was small. It was my boyfriend, myself, and two guys who were on a trip around the world. It was nice because one of the guys sat shotgun, and the remaining 3 of us sat in the 2nd row, so we could all easily hear our tour guide, see out the front window, as well as view the dvd player in the hummer. The two guys were HUGE Lost fans, while my boyfriend and I haven't seen a single episode. I know it seems strange to take a Lost tour when we haven't ever seen the show, but I completely agree with the earlier reviewers that it really doesn't matter- you will still enjoy yourself!
Our tour guide (Ricardo I think... I feel so badly that my brain stopped working during this vacation and I can't remember all of the tour guides we had throughout the week) was incredibly friendly and fun to listen to. He learned about what we were each interested in, so he could talk in more detail about things that we would enjoy. For instance, since my boyfriend mentioned he was a big Hawaii 5-0 fan, he made a point to talk about some of their filming sites.
One thing that's really neat about this tour is that they have a photo book as well as a DVD player that shows you different scenes from shows and movies. I had seen many of the movies before (like Pearl Harbor, 50 First Dates, Godzilla, Jurassic Park, You Me and Dupree, and many more, but seeing the photos and video helped put the scenery we were viewing in context.
Our tour guide really made the trip personal. He got out with us a bunch of times throughout the tour and offered to take our photo with the scenery behind us each and every time. This was great! We have so many wonderful (and beautiful) picture memories from this tour. He also had a few really funny staged pictures with props that made the stops really fun. I won't spoil the surprises by sharing too much detail here.
A good portion of the tour is spent traveling around Kualoa Ranch, but the experience appeared to be far superior than the experiences of the other mass tour groups that were traveling the area. In the hummer, they truly take you off road! Make sure you have your seat belt on- it's a true thrill, and we really enjoyed it!
Overall, great tour! They advertise a 5 hour tour, but we were actually wrapped up around the 4 hour mark and started heading back to the Waikiki hotel area at that time, then we were dropped back off at our hotel around the 11:30 (4.5 hrs). The cost of $149/person was a little steep, but it was definitely a superior tour, and I was glad I got to do this. Thanks KOS tours!
