“Quintessential Newport”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2011

Having lived in Newport, our frequent visits are very special times for us. We find the Viking has the beauty and charm of Newport coupled with an extremely friendly and accommodating atmosphere.
The entire team at the Viking makes every visit first-class.
We love the location, as it's an easy walk to our favorite shops and restaurants.
Breakfasts are fantastic.....you have to try the Crab Cakes Benedict!
We hope you can experience an outstanding hotel with a rich history and a wonderful professional staff...it's quintessential Newport.

The fact that you have lived in Newport year round and are familiar with the terrain as well as what is available in terms of hotels, pleases us immensely that you continue to visit and stay with us. We want to insure that each visit gets better. Our environment has to create a warm and welcoming greeting to each and every guest and it is heartwarming when we fulfill our mission. Your return is always appreciated.

We were in Newport for a wedding, and didn't spend that much time in the hotel itself, but when we were there the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms (especially the beds!) were very comfortable. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the toilet being in a separate room from the sink.

We are appreciative of your compliments and we do strive to be the best in our guest service area. The rooms are designed not only to provide a comfortable place to stay making maximum use of the space available in each of our guest rooms.

Love this hotel. The staff was very nice and helpful. The hotel is about .5 mile from the bay and is a nice walk down to the center. i was on the second floor. The room was small but for an older hotel it was a nice size, and i loved how the bathroom was layout. the bed was the second most comfortable bed in a hotel I've had. The only down side was on the second floor and next to the entrance it was a little noisy.so if you are a lite sleeper i would would ask for a even number room. but i will stay here again when i come back.

Thank you so much for your compliments about our hotel! We are very appreciative you took the time to write about your stay. We are a small historic boutique hotel in a really great location. The architects wanted to make the best use of the space available and they have succeeded.

Had a fabulous time during our stay at the Viking. We even arrived on the day the big Nor'easter hit and still had a great time! The hotel is so warm and welcoming with a cozy, yet elegant ambiance. The room has the best beds and pillows, not to mention the Keurig which made my day! Linens are comfortable, warm, but not too. The wifi speed was even better than before. Had breakfast there each day and the food was terrific. Really enjoyed eating breakfast in the beautiful sunroom and the wait staff was wonderful. Our last dinner was eaten in their restaurant, One Bellevue and was absolutely delicious. Situated at the top of the hill, the views from the top of the hotel are beautiful, especially at sunset. We did get our cardio in walking up and down the hill, but that was half the fun of it, exploring the neigborhoods of beautiful Newport. Newport and the Viking will see us again!

Arriving during the Nor’easter was certainly adventurous. We are pleased though that all worked out. It is wonderful that you feel we are your “home away from home” and are all pleased with your comments. Your description of the room and ambience and warmth makes one want to come for a visit! We hope you are able to visit us again soon!

On our first night here, there were two weddings, and the guests were partying in their rooms afterwards, which required hotel security to ask them to quiet down. At breakfast, the seats in the booth looked dirty, with crumbs, and in the hallways, there was garbage on the floor (beer bottles, paper, etc.). It was almost as if the employees just worh there but don't really care. This place could be awesome if they wanted it to be.

Each department at the Hotel Viking has standards that have to be met each and every day. Our Housekeeping staff takes great pride in delivering cleanliness in all of our rooms and throughout the hotel. It is very difficult for us to imagine not having a clean work environment. In reading your comments it has given us a moment for each of us to look around to see if there are untidy, and unclean areas that need addressing. So as difficult as it is to consider this, you have given us pause to make any necessary corrections to our procedures and make sure we do not have areas that are unattractive. And , yes we do care!

I stayed at the Hotel Viking, along with several other co-workers. For my job, I travel all over the world, and stay at many different hotels. This was the first experience that was bad enough to share it on TripAdvisor!

On my last night at the hotel, I came back to the room after a very long day of meetings, to find a pair of my shoes missing. After looking everywhere in my room, I politely called to the front desk and asked them if they could shed some light on what may have happened. I was told to "check under my bed", and that they may have ended up in their lost and found?? The manager made NO effort whatsoever to provide a resolution.

It was cold, dark, and rainy night in Newport, and I was leaving the following morning. I had to walk to find a shoe nearby shoe store and spend $70 on a new pair of shoes so that I could comfortably travel through airports.

After arriving back home, I found out that a co-worker had a pair of boots come up missing as well. I emailed the manager, and I never got a response. I have never had to worry about my personal things in ANY hotel. And, the fact that they did NOTHING to resolve the situation is absolutely unacceptable. I travel to Newport at least twice a year and I will never stay at Hotel Viking again.

My wife and I went here for a weekend getaway from NYC. The hotel was great and the rooms were nicely appointed. We had an estate guestroom. The room was a little smaller than we expected but worked fine for our purposes. The bathroom was very small however and only included a half sink - this bathroom won't work for larger people. I guess this comes with older hotels though. Can't beat the location and service at this hotel. We will certainly be back! My wife used the spa services there and had great things to say afterwards.

Room Tip: We faced Bellevue avenue, were located near the elevator and the valet carport was below us. I'...
