“Wonderful weekend spent in Newport, RI”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

I just returned from a 2 night stay at the Samuel Durfee House. My boyfriend and I spent our birthday weekend together. The location was wonderful. One block up from the restaraunts and bars and a few blocks from Bowman's and Bannister's wharf. Off the street parking. Room was great. We asked for the Ida Turner room which also had a private balcony which was perfect for a brisk fall morning. Bed was comforable, room was spacious. Michael and Heather are wonderful. Baked goodies in the afternoon were a treat when coming back to the room to relax before heading out for dinner. Excellent coffee. Innkeepers provided us with directions and information on resturants and things to do, directions. The were very friendly and their son, Jaxson, was also a great host with serving breakfast. Breakfasts were fantastic! Normally, would have kept us full to dinner, but we were on vacation and eating and drinking well beyond normal. A special treat was that Heather and Michael left cupcakes in our room and a birthday message for us on our second day. So sweet. Can't wait to come back here and will recommend to all family and friends. Convenient, charming, and great hospitality.

Room Tip: We had the Ida Turner room which was in the back of the house..very quiet. Not sure about the front...

“A Great Inn ... It's What a B&B Experience Should Be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

The Samuel Durfee House is an historic building, that has been refurbished and is in lovely condition. Your hosts are charming and helpful and put on delicious breakfasts - one day sweet, the next savoury. The Inn is convenient to downtown attractions and shopping and the sea-side mansions of Newport are only a very short drive away. The Inn provides off-street parking in their own lot. Over the nights that we stayed our fellow guests included an Australian couple at the end of a 5 week visit to the USA, a couple from Brooklyn, with accents to prove it, an English couple from Surrey and two couples from Colorado. Each breakfast brought convivial conversation and delicious food and drink. Coffee is available during the day and cookies are set out for an afternoon snack. It was exactly the kind of experience that makes us inveterate patrons of B&B's. The bed and linens were of fine quality and the rooms (we peeked into many) all seemed as lovely as our own. The ONLY complaint I could make is that the shower curtain was set so low that it flopped onto the shower's floor, which I find an annoyance.

Room Tip: While the rooms at the back of the house are quieter, despite having a street facing room at the fro...

“Awesome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

We have been converted to true belivers in the B&B! Heather & Michael are wonderful, warm, caring, and informative hosts. The Inn was impeccable, spacious, and beautifully decorated.
The breakfasts were over the top, definitely not a granola bar B&B!! Food was delicious, ample, and attractively served. Nothing could have improved our stay and hope to send many friends there for the wonderful and relaxing experience.
Thank You Heather, Michael and Jaxson.

“Great stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

We stayed at the Samuel Durfee House for 4 days. Michael & Heather are very special people who make staying at their B&B comfortable, enjoyable, and informative. The house is kept spotlessly. The room was very comfortable. Each breakfast was unique and fastidiously prepared (thank you Michael.) Each afternoon baked goods and beverages were provided (thank you Heather for baking the cookies, brownies, etc.) Conversations with the other guests during breakfast and in the late afternoon were always interesting as we traded information about our sightseeing in Newport as well as our other travels. Michael & Heather always answered questions about the Newport area and made suggestions on where to have dinner, what to see, etc. Without a doubt, if (when?) we return to Newport, we will definitely stay at the Samuel Durfee House.

“Fall Getaway”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

First time to a Bed and Breakfast! The location was great for walking into town and to dinner, also close to the Newport Mansions & Cliff Walk that we really enjoyed. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and filling, thank you Michael!!! Hope to come back next year in the fall and stay in the Ida Lewis Room next time.
