“Friend getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

My husband and daughter were both away so my friend and I decided to get away - haven't seen each other in awhile. We decided on Newport. The weather was beautiful and hotel is in a great location. You can walk to many things. We booked a 2 bed room. When we arrived we were upgraded due to status with Marriot to a suite. It was on the concierge level and was very large. The furniture in the suite room was in need of some touch ups as it had a lot of scratches, HOWEVER, it was so large. We had 2 bathrooms, a dining area, 2 TVS, couchs, kitchen area. It was great, nice view of the harbor - perfect getaway. The concierge lounge was EXCELLENT. They have a nice continental breakfast consisted of, coffee, assorted juices, muffins, bagels, meats, oatmeal, eggs etc, fresh fruit, and more. They also have snacks all day long in there with soft drinks etc. Starting at 5:00 they have an honor bar, full bar and wines. They also have soft drinks, assorted beers, coffee, they have appetizers, cheeses, crackers, vegetables, hot choices, very nice layout. Later on they also put out dessert, they had carrot cake and chocolate cake. This is a great benefit to this floor. You have to pay to park, their site lists $20 per day for self-park and $25 for valet. However, it if you have status with Marriott, you rate is reduced and varies depending on time of the year. I will stay here again.

Still busy during spring break, but great off-season rates. Normal parking is $20/day $25 if valet; with Marriott rewards discount it was $7. Great location, Very clean, Staff all positive and upbeat.

The Newport Marriott is a very nice hotel in a great location. Walking distance to all waterfront shopping, activities and restaurants. It is a very large hotel but the only place you felt it was large was at the pool. The fitness center, open 24 hours a day, had top rated equipment. The only reason this review is "very good" and not "excellent" is the housekeeping staff, very early in the morning, had conversations with each other in the hallway. They were loud and a bit annoying. The acoustics were pretty bad. Otherwise, this hotel was very nice.

Room Tip: there are inside rooms with a small balcony overlooking the lobby. If you want to be close to the...

The Newport Marriott has the most comfortable beds anywhere. The hotel has great amenities ranging from hot tub to pool. The restaurants are very good and the location is super. Your within walking distance to tremendous shops, a variety of great restaurants and a picutresque view. The staff at the hotel are helpful and gracious. The rooms are immaculate. You can actually park your car and not drive till your leaving to go back home. That's how close your are to everything. I have stayed there many times and keep going back. My favorite hotel. It's awesome

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view. It's awesome. Staff are very accomodating.

My wife and I recently attended a wedding in Newport Rhode Island ,and stayed at the Marriot there. For a relatively inexpensive hotel, the room was spacious and clean ,and I especially liked the gift shop in the lobby where you could get newspapers and Starbucks coffee in the morning. We also had a decent breakfast in the restaurant which had a nice buffet. This Marriot was very busy ,and is not a very upscale hotel, but represents good value for the price.

Not a hotel I would choose again. The room was clean, but in need of updating. The walls were so thin, you could hear conversation in the next room. Valet parking service staff was excellent, but cost $15 per day. With only 7 people in the bar it took the bartender 10 minutes to take our order. Internet service cost $12.95 to $16.95 per day (depending on desired band width). Ridiculous in this era of free Internet. The water in the bathroom was brown until it had run for two minutes. The rooms had probably not been inspected lately was there was not fire escape plan posted in our 5th floor room. The food was the worst I have ever eaten. Granted it was banquet food, but the rolls were cold, the vegetables, if you even got them were undercooked, the seafood casserole contained 2 muscles, 2 shrimp and a few calamari served on a bed of rice. The chicken was dry. Apparently the same sauce was used for the seafood casserole and the chicken, and it was a lukewarm, pasty and tasteless. If you are going to Newport there are much nicer places to stay. I will not stay there again!

This hotel has a great location in downtown Newport. Staff are professional. Rooms are clean but are ready for updating. There are flat screen tvs and duvets on the beds but the decor needs a change. Rooms are not huge but adequate. If you need a rollaway bed in a king room, it will be tight.
Room tip: there r some rooms that have mini balconies overlooking the atrium/lobby. While it's nice, the atrium can be noisy at night so if you are a light sleeper, get a room that doesn't face the atrium.
