“Location is perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

There cannot be a better location in Newport (on on waterfront, next to transit center, across street from Cardines Field). It's such a great location, I'd still call it 5 star even with several negative points: You'll pay big for it ($300+ night during peak season, try to spend Marriott Reward points), despite being on waterfront, virtually none of the rooms have water views (only views into covered interior [like many Doubetlree locales], parking slightly inconvenient (different floor than lobby floor, $20 a night). Bottom line: If you're visiting Newport, this (if you have money or points) should be your top choice.

Room Tip: Use Marriott Rewards or other point programs.

Ran several executive meetings/events over the past 4 days at the Newport Marriott. This is an annual event. The service can't be beat! The staff (from event manager, bell staff & banquet staff) remember me from one year to the next. They go WAY above & beyond to please. The quality & display of their food at functions is outstanding! Highly recommend doing business with the Newport Marriott! Makes my job so much easier!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor with a view of the harbor.

The hotel is in a very convenient location. Short walk to downtown, bike rentals, and moderate walk to mansions on Bellevue Avenue and Cliff Walk. We had a room on 7th floor with harbor view. It was really lovely. used points and got the upgrade which was really nice on a crowded holiday weekend. Staff in lounge was great and friendly as was front desk staff. Toilet had some issues-flapper valve-but this was taken care of by maintainance.

Room Tip: ask for exterior view and not one facing inner courtyard

Don't upgrade the great folks who give great service, but please spruce up the place a bit. Wonderful location right in downtown Newport. You can walk to all the great downtown restaurants. Conveniently located to the mansions. Not far from the navy base. Easy to get to and from. Nice rooms, always clean for each visit I make there, and the bed is always comfortable. Great towels! Plenty of hot water.

As most Marriotts are, the restaurant food is overpriced, but the servers are excellent. The same can be said for the spa services. Never saw the concierge in the concierge room..... but the bellhops and the front desk were helpful with locating restaurants that delivered when I had to work from my room.

Occassionally I get upgraded to a waterview room, which is a treat. They place me in a room which is almost always quiet. Thank you Marriott for that.

Room Tip: ask for a waterview room. Maybe you'll get lucky. Avoid the interview view rooms, they can be...

The lobby and open central space of this hotel are impressive. The staff were friendly and helpful. However, you pay a premium for being "in Newport". We had a standard king room, which was very average. I regularly get similar quality rooms and newer Hampton Inns for half the price. All in all, a nice hotel, great location, but once you're in your room you'll question what you paid so much for.

Overpriced, and desperately in need of a FACELIFT!! Service - close to zero. We called at 8:45a.m. and asked to have our room cleaned before noon and at 2p.m. - still not done! Tried calling housekeeping - and was placed on hold twice..... In addition the musty smell was awful. Also, since we are 'elite' members we were told that we would have a harbor view - however, the small and undersized window started 4.5 feet off the floor! You had to be standing at the window to see anything.....

Seriously, get your act together!

Room Tip: Try one of the many lovely boutiques around town.
