“Great last minute accomadations!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

I booked a room for two nights at the Regency last minute on the way home from Cape Cod. The room was clean and quiet; we stayed on the first floor which had a lovely view of the harbor. The room seemed a little small for the two queen beds that it housed. Hotel staff was very polite and friendly throughout our entire stay. The kids loved the outdoor pool; we ordered from the outside pineapple grill; prices were average, and we were able to add them on to our hotel bill. Hotel shuttle to Newport center was great. I agree with previous reviewer that a bathroom fan would be a great addition for showers. Wi-fi and complimentary water and coffee were included making the visit nice.

Room Tip: Select a room on a floor other than the lower level to maximize your view of the harbor.

July 4th weekend at the Hyatt in Newport, RI... customer service sorely lacking, rooms dated, and the hotel security was rude and overbearing.
Filled out customer service satisfaction survey and received half-hearted apology from manager.

We discovered the Hyatt many years ago and chose to have our destination wedding here 5 years ago - it was magical! Since then we have ventured back at least twice a year and are treated like family by every single person on staff! Our last visit was a few weeks ago and thanks go out to Kendall, Kirby and Katelyn for making our stay amazing as always and also to Scott, Sarah and Trudy - all of you provide exceptional service with a wonderful personal touch each time we visit. The consistency of the phenomenal service and the beauty of the location bring us back time and again. Every single experience with the front desk, housekeeping, food service, event management, catering, reservations and every other aspect of the hotel staff has been first rate. Can't wait to see you in the fall and in the winter for our anniversary!

Room Tip: A view from every angle!

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary in the king captains quarter suite. This room is definitely worth the extra money. The room was clean and very spacious and included a balcony with a nice view of the harbor and Newport bridge. The walls were not well insulated as we could hear the people in the room next to us at times. Consider a corner room if you're looking for quiet. The hotel did offer free shuttle service every 1/2 to downtown which was very convenient. Overall, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. There is a very tiny breakfast bistro which served Starbucks coffee but the selection of breakfast food there was scarce at best. Overall, a very good hotel with great views.

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and quiet

The hotel's chief quality is definitely the location. The rooms have beautiful views of Newport and the waterfront from Goat Island. The walk into town is less than a mile and the hotel provides a shuttle service for those not wanting to walk, cab, or drive.

I must say the service was not up to the level I have come to expect from other Hyatt properties (Andaz, Park, other Regency hotels, etc.). Additionally, there were several bizarre front desk mix-ups (minor, but still a bit annoying); the bathrooms did not have fans (I take luke-warm showers and my bathroom still fogged up instantly and remained that way long after I had finished showering); and the hotel's common areas could use a good sprucing-up.

Overall I would say that my stay was "good," rather than "average," if 3.5 stars had been an option. If I were not a Hyatt Diamond member, I probably would look for a different (slightly more-refined) hotel if I ever pay another visit to Newport, RI.

Room Tip: I would suggest a higher floor (6 or above).

Green Features: Was happy to see a recycling bin, and cards requesting that the guest re-use towels and linens.

We have been coming to to Hyatt for several years. The hotel has not changed very much. I feel it needs some updating. We needed to change our room location the first room we got was downstairs in a stairwell. When we asked for a room change the staff member saw the number of the room he said understood and we were changed to a room with a terrific ocean view. The staff has always been very courteous and helpful. The only problem was that we didn't get our room until after 5:00 and didn't get an opportunity to enjoy the music at Pineapple's which is something we look forward to. The shower door did not close completely so there was water on the floor. They wanted to fix it right away but told them to wait until we were leaving. I also forgot toothpaste but one call to the desk and there was someone at the door within 5 minutes(great service)The hotel is a close enough to Thames Street to walk or take the shuttle but it is far enough away from the noise you can relax by the outdoor pool and enjoy the beautiful views of the bridge. The location is what brings us back every year.

Room Tip: ask for room with a view

We were gathering for a family Wedding on Eastern Beach. We knew family and friends would be booking in all over Newport so we wanted a hotel that could accommodate the the clan gathering in one spot.
From what I can tell, the Hyatt is the only Resort style hotel in the area. It suited our needs to a tee.
The large grounds, and swimming pool are were perfect the clan to gather and chill before and after the Wedding events.
The staff were always on hand and helpful, especially around the pool.
The rooms are a little tired, but are well cleaned. Sadly, the walls seem to be paper thin, so if your room is near the lifts (or a noisy neighbor) be prepared for the noise.
Being situated on Goat Island, seemed perfect to me, far enough from the throng in Newport (we were there during a Folk Festival) but close enough to enjoy all its benefits.
I would happily stay here again.
