“Beautiful Hotel!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

This was our 2nd trip to Newport, RI but 1st time to Hyatt Regency. Beautiful hotel and nicely updated. We were upgraded to a Junior Suite and had complete view of the ocean. They have a beautiful spa and we both had wonderful massages with their masseurs. We wish we had planned to stay there longer as Newport has really developed over the past few years. We would have loved to have toured all the mansions. We took a drive along Ocean Blvd and the homes there are magnificent!! Well worth the trip.

as a last minute surprise my husband said "let's go away for the night". His plan was to drive to Narranagansett and stay there for the night but, he changed his mind and went kept driving to Newport. I had looked on all of the travel sites and hotel discount websites and did find availability. As we were pulling in I checked the hotel's website and found a better price for the room with a package deal that included a full breakfast (which was absolutely delicious-you can chose between the buffet or a plated breakfast of which there were many scrumptious choices) It's not often that we stay at higher end hotels such as this but but once in a while it's nice treat.

The rooms are very nice and comfortable. Rooms have a small fridge which is great since we brought a cooler with drinks and food for the ride. We didn't book a waterview room but did get one with a view of the Jamestown bridge. Gorgeous setting!

This hotel has a great set up. There is a nice bar/lounge in the lobby as well as a restaurant with a very pretty view of the harbor. Through the lobby is a deck where you can get drinks/food or just sit and relax. Walking down from the deck you see that pool and beyond that an outdoor bar/restaurant (it does close a bit early though, maybe not later in the summer?). There are also two outdoor firepits, one of which was used while we were there.

The bed was comfortable and we had no problems with the water, shower, or water pressue during our stay. The only problem we had was that the layout of the hotel is a bit confusing at first, but not a big deal!

The hotel is on Goat Island and the hotel offers a shuttle to downtown Newport every half hour until Midnight. Such a great service since it's so close but kind of a pain to park at night.

Newport is beautiful any time of year and I would definitely stay at the Hyatt again.

Our daughter got married and had her reception at the Hyatt in Newport on June 16, 2013. We met with Steven James who listened to her vision to the last detail then listened to our budget details and we were assured this was a task he could complete. This man is amazing. He read and answered my many emails. He referred us to the vendors who could do the job. He was there at every turn making sure our entire day went as planned and came back for the breakfast event the next day. He left not one stone unturned. Our guests were from across the country from Costa Rica to Arizona. Everyone could easily get into town and have a mini vacation in addition to the wedding. The food was amazing! Everyone raved over the scallops in bacon and the puffed pastry with pear and Brie. Our signature drinks were great but the filet mignon and basil infused chicken breast were to die for. The exceeded my and everyone else's expectation. We thought we were at a 5 star restaurant. Steven is who made the wedding run so smoothly. He is kind, professional, up on every last little detail. I also want to mention Kate Linehan who was in charge of our room block and who made sure all of our guests were well taken care of and Matt Colna who ran the ballroom as head captain. Matt made sure every guest had everything they needed and more. Thanks to every server, the cook, the bartender I could go on forever but special thanks once again to Steven James who can make every girls vision of her special wedding day come through beautifully.

Room Tip: Everyone raved over how comfortable the beds and pillows were. I am going to write to the hotel to f...

Hyatt Regency Newport is a great hotel on a beautiful property. The staff was friendly, the room was clean and nice. The hotel offered transportation to and from Bowen's Wharf by boat and shuttle bus. We used the indoor pool and outdoor pool during our stay. The outdoor pool area was beautiful with waitress service to order beverages and food. The hotel offered several kids activities throughout the day. The Hyatt Newport had several weddings going on during our stay, but it never interfered with our stay. We would definitely come back again!

I stayed at this hotel as I was in town for a wedding held at the hotel. I stayed two nights and was thankful that I was checking out after only two days. I travel for about 16 weeks per year for work. My expectations are not high as I am 24 years old and would not consider myself to be high matainence, however this hotel wouldn't meet the standards of a super 8 motel. When checking in we were surprised with a "resort fee" that covered wi-fi that didn't work, replenish able water bottles that were not replenished and a shuttle to shops that were within walking distance. The valet service, while only $5 a day was a waste of money as it took 45 mins to get my car. The front desk was kind of rude when I brought it up. While enjoying the fireplace on the outdoor patio with friends after a great wedding, an employee walked up and said "It's midnight I have to turn this off." It was only 11:45 and we were paying guests. This hotel is a joke and does not live up to the standards of any respectable resort nor any respectable hotel. For $300 a night, plus a "resort fee" I expect a decent stay. To top off my stay, I found a cockroach in my bathroom. Maybe because the room wasn't cleaned until 6:00 pm? Still haven't heard from the hotel in response to my feedback.

We had an enjoyable 3-day stay at the Hyatt Newport in early June. The Goat Island ( yes, there were goats on the island at one time) location is excellent, providing views of Narragansett Bay and the impressive Newport (Pell) bridge on one side, and the harbor on the other.

Marie at the front-desk was warm and friendly and started our visit off on the right foot by giving us an upgrade to a top-floor room, affording magnificent views. Throughout our stay, we were very impressed by the warmth and efficiency of the staff. While we did not have multi-course meals at the restaurants, the snacks and drinks that we had ticked all the boxes. One afternoon, the resident mixologist served up zingy jalapeno cilantro margaritas in the lobby, very welcome indeed.

The shuttle from the hotel to Bowen's Wharf runs every half-hour, the drive takes 5 minutes. An easy walk to town would take about 15-20 minutes depending on how far you are going.

The hotel grounds are well-maintained, with a walking path around the water's edge with benches where one can look out over the bay. The only drawbacks, prompting a 4 rather than a 5 rating, are the rather tired-looking rooms ( particularly the pokey bathrooms), and the fact that many of the complimentary amenities on offer were not in fact available.

We would certainly come back.

Huge thanks and kudos to Steven James, the best Senior Catering Sales Manager who along with his staff including Kendal, Megan and Jane, and Banquet Managers, Gretchen and Kelly, made our daughter's and her husband's wedding a dream come true! We also want to thank the staff at the Stillwater Spa; Kathryn, Kristyn, Nicole, Marcia and Katia for taking such good care of the bridal party and making us feel and look so beautiful! Thank you to Kate L. who made all the room reservations and took care of getting all those Welcome Bags delivered to our guests! The staff at the Windward Restaurant was friendly and efficient. Our thanks to Suzette, Kate and Donna!! We cannot forget the unbelievable service with the many trips with our luggage and wedding items that Eric, Scott, Matt and Chris handled for us! Job well done and most appreciated! We and our guests enjoyed everything about our stay, including the accommodations, beautiful location, delicious food and the most friendly, professional staff. We would definitely recommend the Hyatt and can't wait to return for another visit.
