“THANKS FOR MAKING A SURPRISE SUPERB!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

We planned a surprise overnight for a special friend who is going through some health issues.
I faxed the manager of the hotel and received a response the next day from Cassandra, the lead reservation specialist. She took care of everything allowing me to pay for the room in advance and see to it that any incidentals would be billed to my account directly. She upgraded them to a beautiful room. The professionalism and the way my friends were treated was greatly appreciated. They had a beautiful stay at the Hyatt Newport. We look forward to visiting that wonderful resort some day for ourselves. Kudos for an excellent staff and property!!!

Decided to go to Newport for a last minute family getaway and found an incredible deal through the Hyatt.com site. We ended up with a 2 bed 2 bath suite with the resort fee waived for less than the price of a standard room. the view was spectacular - lighthouse, ocean. the room spotless and massive. The beds were very comfortable; our 7 year old slept 12 hours straight one night thanks to the absolute quiet, the blackout curtains and the delicious king bed.

We ate in the restaurant and ordered room service both. Room service was fast, ridiculously over priced but that's always the case. You're going to pay $30 for a soda, chicken tenders and a beer if you order roomservice. if that's a problem for you, don't stay at a hotel. The restaurant service was good and the view great. The food at the breakfast buffet was fine, not spectacular but perfectly fine. The omelet station was very understaffed. The poor chef was alone and cooking omelets, waffles and pancakes. At one point there were 12 people backed up waiting to order. However, once I actually got my omelet - delish. There could have been more fresh fruit but then again, the raspberries were excellent.

The pool (indoor) was just what we needed. nothing big or fancy but perfect for a quick dip and not too crowded. The towels were lovely large beach towels.

This weekend they waived the 'resort fee' for us so our wifi and shuttle bus and water bottles (2 a day) were complimentary! We used the shuttle and the driver was very nice. The wifi worked well and free bottled water and tea/coffee was a nice touch.

Overall this is an excellent hotel to go to in the off season. We stayed here once before several years ago at New Years and had a similarly lovely experience. I've heard this place is great in the summer too - large outdoor pool, great location - but the prices are ridiculous and it's often completely booked up. One day we'll manage to make it up there for a sunny warm weekend. In the mean time though - January and February at the Hyatt Newport is the place to be! Our daughter did not want to leave.

Had an ocean view for a wedding in September and it was great. The bathroom was huge and the room was clean. There also was a huge walk in closet in the room. Check in was a breeze and the front desk clerks were very helpful.

Recently booked a girl's spa weekend at nearby Hyatt in Newport, RI. The hotel is your basic large hotel which was quiet this time of year, even for the long weekend. My room faced the ocean with a small balcony providing a nice view. It would be lovely in the summer to sun, read or have a cocktail after a day at the beach. Unfortunately, the spa lost my reservation so I didn't have the treatments I wanted but they tried to make up for it with a 15% discount. Although not as pampered as I would have liked, it was a nice accomodation. The spa was clean, provided thick comfy robes and had a very relaxing atmosphere and the treatment providers were very good. Drinks at the bar in the evening were nice and there was a piano player providing some entertainment. Breakfast was included with our package which provided an ample buffet or an omlet/eggs of your choice. Also, there is a shuttle service to get you from the hotel into town. Because it was rather slow, the drivers would take us directly to whatever restaurant we requested and would have come and picked us up as well, but we decided to make the walk back in the evening.

Room Tip: ocean view

I stayed here with my gril friends for a night out. We had a blast in Newport. The hotle offers a shuttle and in the summer, I'm told they have a water taxi, as well.
From the moment we pulled in, we were taken care of. Car was parked, bags were taken to the room and the shuttle took us downtown.
I was able to get a government rate, so I saved some money there...I just wished they offered it more during the summer.

Had such a great time last New Year's Eve with friends that we were all looking forward to returning this year. Our group booked early in the year and requested rooms close together. When checking in, we mentioned that we requested rooms close together. Our group could not have been farther apart! "There is nothing we can do due to availability" was the excuse. Our room stunk like sewer gas and had to mention it three times before engineering came to put Drano down the drain. Very busy with lots of kids! New Year's Day breakfast in hotel dining room was based on some 'package' versus taking your name and them seating parties based on availability. Completed my survey on hyatt.com and got a polite message from hotel manager with excuses and no acknowledgement of issues. We will not be returning next year to ring in the New Year here!

Room Tip: Do not get Room 514 as it stinks like sewer gas!

First, let me thank the front desk, Christine We were originally booked at the Marriot in Newport. When we arrived at 4:30, they had booked us a room with 1 bed. I had booked a room with two beds as we are a family of 5!! They did let us cancel with a full refund. Then I called the Hyatt. They couldn't have been more accomadating. Christine at the front desk was so generous. She gave us a room with a water view and a gift certificate for the restuarant after hearing about our experience at the marriot. We had a great evening relaxing in the lounge and a great night sleep in our lovely room
