“Great tea lattes and desserts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013 via mobile

Friendly help- delicious chocolate cake , cookies , frozen hot chocolate and tea lattes. Similar feel to most coffee/ tea places but open late. Mostly locals and away from the tourist crowd.

“Close, but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013 via mobile

Warm environment, very good coffee, and very friendly service. Large selection of teas and bubble teas. Muffins were very good.

I would have rated it outstanding but: Their bagels were terrible* and their coffee lids don't fit their cups properly - so count on a puddle of coffee in the take out tray and/or drips on your shirt.

* - not just the "Dunkin Donuts - this isn't a bagel - it's a roll" bad - but truly "dry and tasteless" bad.

Too bad... As I liked everything else about the place.

“Shoulda went to Starbucks”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

We like to go to small mom/pop shops and avoid the commercial franchises but this time even Starbucks would have been better. I ordered a cappuccino and the coffee flavor was very bitter. My husband ordered the RedEye coffee with a shot of expresso and that was even worse. Not a very cute, cozy type of coffee shop and the location/area didn't make me feel safe. If you're a tourist, try somewhere else.

“Best espresso ever!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

We are frequent visitors to Empire - they have the BEST espresso anywhere! The owner is obsessive about coffee (as is my boyfriend), and Empire is a very unique coffee shop. The staff is always very knowledgeable and friendly. Located on Broadway - a very fun and funky part of Newport - not only do they have a lot of different coffee blends, they also have teas from all over the world. It's also a fun place to meet the diverse mix of people who frequent this place. On any given night, you can meet college students, tourists from all over the world and with the Navy base just minutes away, often times throngs of uniformed Navy personnel from every state will make themselves at home here. We have had many interesting conversations with so many people. They also occasionally have live music. I like how there are numerous different seating areas - leather chairs and couches, small cafe tables and some bigger tables are located in the back to accommodate meeting groups. It's a really cool place to hang out.

“Latte and Light Brite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012 via mobile

Great place to refuel and relax! Found this spot at the end of my summer rental and went back twice. The coffee is delish! I loved the chill vibe, and of course, creative break with the light brite table
