“The perfect B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

My husband and I came to Newport for our first visit on Sat, March 16, expecting a quiet off season weekend. To our surprise, we arrived in the morning amidst thousands of revelers who had come to imbibe and to watch the St Patrick's day parade which was held a day early. We checked in the Francis Malbone House and immediately loved its genteel and serene atmosphere. Our room was absolutely charming, as were all of the sitting rooms where we could relax and avoid the crowds. Although it is located right on Thames Street, on the parade route, the inn felt like a haven.
We were also delighted by the plentiful afternoon "tea". On that Saturday we could savor Irish stew, cheese fondue, and many delicious pastries. Theses generous offerings were repeated at breakfast time, when it addition to lovely scones, muffins, fruit and yogurt, we enjoyed wonderful eggs Benedict.
We loved every minute of our stay at the inn and will be back as soon as possible.

There wasn't much to do in Newport as many things were closed. It was cold outside, but the Malbone house was cozy and comfy. We had dinner at the White Horse Tavern which was a great place for a winter dinner...very dark and warm fires in the fireplaces. the food was good too. Our room at the Malbone H.was lovely with a nice fireplace...on the first floor, right inside the door. It would be nice in the warm weather as there is a little courtyard. However, my husband and I both prefer the old part of the Inn. Breakfast was wonderful and so was tea....a lovely place.

As always, the service was impeccable, the staff extremely friendly and attentive. The house is spotless, the breakfast and tea was scrumptious. the Irish coffee served parade side was a welcome treat. thank you once again. will definitely return!

Room Tip: All are perfect, unless stairs are a problem for you.

Karen & Kevin,

I had such a lovely weekend with you and all your family memebers, it was so lovely to be with lots of Irish people to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
The Irish Coffee really do hit the spot while your are taking in all of the festivities.

See you soon.

With our numerous trips to Newport, RI, we had stayed at several of town's B&Bs. While each has been nice, my husband and I always come back to the Francis Malbone House. From the staff, to the comfy accomodations and impeccable service truly reminding you that you are away from home, to the yummy breakfast and tea time, Newport stays are made more more memorable by spending your "down" time a the Malbone.

Thank you to my hubby and to the staff at the Malbone for making my birthday stay a real pleasure.

Room Tip: there are no elevators so if you do not like steps ask for the 1st or 2nd floor.

It was so nice to have you both return to the Francis Malbone House and of course to celebrate your birthday made your visit extra special.

We just love welcoming returning guests, it makes the Inn feel like home for us all. We hope to see you and your husband at the Francis Malbone again soon.

This was our 4th stay at the Francis Malbone House and once again we had a wonderful time. The afternoon tea and deserts were home made and incredable! Breakfeast was great too.

The staff is great. Check out Zeldas for dinner. Very romantic!

Room Tip: Get a room with a double jacuzzi and bring a bottle of champain

Of all the inns in New England that we have visited, I think that Malbone House is our favorite. We recently stayed at the Mabone House for the second time in January. We love the Newport area in the off season with the lack of crowds and, of course, the off-season rates. On both visits, we really had a wonderful time at the inn. We find everything very enjoyable. Our favorite, perhaps, are the wonderfull public spaces in the original house. We take particular pleasure in coming back to the inn in the afternoon, partaking of all the delicious baked goods in the dining room, and relaxing in one of the several common rooms in front of the fireplace while reading and enjoying a drink. The staff is always very welcoming, helpful, and pleasant. We also appreciate the beautifully appointed rooms and the wonderful breakfast. We will undoubtedly come back again and again to enjoy the warmth, comfort, and hospitality that this inn provides.

I love everything about the Francis Malbone!! The classical music, ambiance, common rooms, bedrooms, the breakfast dining room, afternoon tea, the location, the staff etc.... Will and Ann Marie are the best!! Our pampering at breakfast by Sue and her sweet personality!! I can't think of anything to complain about!! We return year after year!! We are never disappointed!!

Room Tip: All the rooms are gorgeous!! We have stayed in almost all of them at one time or another! No matter...

Mr. & Mrs. Jordan,

Thank you so much for your very kind words and compliments about the Francis Malbone and our team. We try very hard to make every guest's stay with us a memorable one (especially after all these year's!)

It is always a pleasure to have you stay with us, getting a chance to chat a catch up on the year's events is a delight - our New Year would not be the same without your visit.

We look forward to seeing you both again next year.

Kind Regards
Anne Maria & Will
