“Best B & B in Newport”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

You cannot stay anywhere better in Newport for Bed & Breakfast than Romana's Armistead Cottage.

Welcoming and truly helpful and caring hosts, good food, great location. Rooms are perfectly clean and tidy with a homely atmosphere. Romana knows Newport inside out and only recommedns places she knows and loves from personal experience.

Of course there is the added bonus of the personally guided tour of the Carrot Museum, a truly unique experience, ANYWHERE in the world.

Room Tip: Wherever Ro places you, you will not be disappointed.

BOOK IT IF YOU CAN GET IT !!!!! : ). Staying at the Armistead Cottage will be one of our favorite memories of our first trip to Newport. You will not find a more accommodating, helpful, welcoming hostess than Romana. She recommended the best places to eat and visit from a priceless locals perspective, and nailed it every time. The cottage is an easy walk to great sightseeing when the weather is right but start your sight seeing right there. Her impeccably neat home is furnished creatively and artistically with spectacular antiques. Do NOT short yourself time to REALLLY look through the carrot museum. Yes, you heard me. Her seemingly effortless breakfasts were delicious, and the conversation always warm and funny. We highly recommend staying here, and will be back for sure.

What a great stay we had here. Romana is the most friendly of hostesses, even providing home made cookies in the bedroom, and we felt really at home for the 4 nights we stayed at Armistead Cottage.Beautiful property both inside and out. Delicious cooked breakfast, which varied each morning. Good location as easy 10 minute walk into all amenities of Newport, including the Mansion Houses which are not to be missed. Lots of shops and restaurants in town and at the harbour area. Would love to return.

Room Tip: Lilac Room was a good choice, beautifully decorated and furnished.

This was our first trip to Newport, RI so we took advantage of one of the weekend packages - we LOVED it and highly recommend it! When we arrived we were treated like long lost relatives, Romana was very welcoming and made us feel at home the minute we walked through the door. Our package included 3 mansion tours, a sail and the winery tour - Romana's tips were very helpful and right on target (she knows Newport)! The breakfasts were amazing, if we didn't live 3 1/2 hours away we'd be tempted to show up at her table in the morning :-) The walk to town was a little longer than we thought, but after a nice dinner it was a good thing and we enjoyed sitting on the porch when we returned. Romana, Charles and The Armistead Cottage were delightful!

For our second trip to Newport RI (a wonderfull place, have to mention) staying at Armistead Cottage was mandatory,
Romana is the best host, period.
Her smile, her stories, her breakfeasts, the rooms, he house (only a 10 minutes walk to 1st beach, wow). Everything, and everyone (Romana and Charles) at Armistead Cottage says welcome.
Tiger, again, says thanks :-)

Stayed 2 nights at the Armistead Cottage with our daughter & son-in-law ! Charles was there to welcome us with a smile at 12:30 am when we arrived..at 9:00 am Ramona, busy making a creative and delicious breakfast, took the time to say hello and right away we knew, this was our home away from home ! Immaculately clean and comfortable, beautiful & imaginative decor, not to mention the carrot room where one cannot spend enough time browsing the carrot themed surroundings. There is no place else to stay in Newport ! THANK YOU RAMONA & Charlies, for a most enjoyable weekend, Leslie & David p.s. I was thinking that Brooklyn could use a B& B
WEINER STYLE, guranteed "no vacancy" ! just puttin it out there :)

Thanks you so much for your kind words and sharing your experience with other Tripadvisor readers. It was so wonderful meeting all of you and talking about NYC and Whitestone. Maybe next time you come to Newport I will try to stay up late to welcome you. Thanks for the B&B idea in Brooklyn, you never know. Wishing you all the best and looking forward to your return, Romana and Charles
