“A wonderful choice in Newport”

Ending a 10-day drive along the New England coast, we stayed at the Marshall Slocum Guest House for our last two nights. The B&B is wonderful in every way ... Dana and Mark make you feel right at home, as part of the check-in process we were given a Newport map and Dana noted all the "must-see/must-do" places in town, Mark's breakfasts are delicious and highlighted by dining on the backyard patio, and all sights in Newport are within a 10-15 walk of the inn (we're walkers, so we loved this feature). We stayed in the Marshall Slocum room, which was lovely with a great bed, and a large attached bathroom. Dana and Mark are the type of innkeepers who go the extra mile ... although I was on vacation, my boss needed to get a time-sensitive fax to me. He contacted the B&B to get their fax number (it wasn't on their web site), only to have Dana tell him they did not have a fax machine - but she gave him the fax number of the local UPS store, and then walked (with her new baby) the 1-mile roundtrip to pick up the fax and have it available to me when I checked in 3 hours later!! Now that's service. We noticed there were 2 groups (one large, one small) staying at the B&B also, and they seemed to be thoroughly enjoying their stay as well. Highly recommended.

My husband and I stayed at the Marshall Slocum Guest House this weekend for our anniversary, and really enjoyed ourselves. The inn is cozy -- our room was very pleasant and the bed was heavenly. The location is in walking distance to many of Newport's attractions such as the mansions, waterfront and more. Mark was a very helpful host, and his breakfasts were phenomenal! Highly recommend this inn for a romantic weekend in Newport.

B&B is located in the heart of Newport, right off of Bellvue Ave. We were able to walk to the mansions and the harbor. Owners were great. They allowed us to check in late, gave us directions not only to the inn but also to everything in town. At breakfast the first morning they gave us a map of Newport and circled all the things people generally like to do. Breakfast was amazing! It was served to us on the back deck and the had lots of healthy options (Berry Parfait and fruit platter) as well as a daily chef's choice (omlette, pancakes, ect..)

Our room (The postcard Room) while not large was comfortable. It also had it's own bathroom which was small but usable. The third floor does not have central air but we did have a window AC unit and a fan. Inn also privided portable DVD players and DVDs if your interested. Off Street parking is also a perk.

“very nice”

Marshall Slocum Guest House

My husband and I chose this inn for its terrific location--away from the hustle and noise of the wharfs/downtown. We found this lovely inn to be very clean and well kept, nautical and antique theme throughout. Teak furniture on the deck, a refrigerator with ice maker and glasses available in the dining room, wicker furniture and swing on the front porch, a small but quaint sitting room off the dining room. We chose the Brass Room for the king size bed and sitting area. This particular room does not have a virtual tour or pictures available on the website. The bed is comfortable with down pillows and crisp linens. The bathroom is small but the closet large (I would suggest that the inn add luggage racks to the spacious closet along with a few hangers, there is a set of drawers in the closet). The basket in the bathroom contained soaps, shampoo, conditioner , and make up remover cloths bearing the inn's name and several packets of Oil of Olay night cream and 1 lotion. The room came with robes and is equipped with an air conditionor unit and a ceiling fan. The inn is about a 15 minute walk to Thames and then a 15 minute walk to the cliff walk entrance and the beach. A ten minute walk to The Elms. The very clean and safe yellow line bus/trolley goes right by the inn--this line goes out to the end of the cliff walk and through the mansions. If you want to walk like we do, this is a great choice. Still, if you prefer to drive into town, the inn's off street parking is a much better deal than $17 a night at the Marriot. Unlike inns on Spring Street or Bellevue, this inn has a charming backyard and a terrific deck. Due to the momentus event of the arrival of their firstborn, breakfast our first morning was a buffet--but quite good. The second day we had a choice of three "entrees" but the yogurt, pastries, fruit were missing. Our belgian waffles still were excellent and accompanied by some fruit. I'm sure it was an oversight as they were quite busy with a life changing event but there were no refreshments out. As the inn is a distance from shops (a plaza up Bellevue and a 7-11 and package store down a few blocks) I would think a basket of apples, plate of cookies, and some iced tea might be a good addition in the late afternoon. I might also suggest a microwave on the second floor to heat water for tea. This inn's website is informative and helpful. We hope to return to this inn soon.

“Just what we needed”

My husband and I, and our friends, stayed here when we came to Newport for a wedding..The house was lovely, and very clean...We stayed in the sleigh room, and out friends stayed in the postcard room, and rose room, all on the third floor....All of the rooms were lovely, and as pictured...But if your looking for a large bathroom, I would go with the sleigh room out of the 3 rooms I mentioned....It was large, and newly renovated....Breakfast was very good in the morning, in which we ate outside...for the price, it was well worth it...if you pay in cash you get a 10% discount which was really great...The inn keepers were also very accomadating and nice..We would definitely go back!
