If you're looking for privacy and quiet in a place, then definitely consider the Murray House B&B for your Newport visit. It is conveniently located near the Cliff Walk, Ocean Drive, Salve Regina University, and the mansions on Bellevue St. My husband and I (with our Brussels Griffon) stayed in the Garden Room, which we chose mainly because of the patio area it provided for our dog. Although the bedroom itself is small, the patio made up for living space and it has a good-sized bathroom. We especially liked having a little kitchenette to prepare our own snacks or meals, coffee in the morning, a small fridge to store our food, water and bottles of wine. The Garden Room is decorated with (I thought) a mixed safari/island theme, perhaps a little too much, but we considered this a trivial detail compared to all the positives and the value we got overall. It was nice to have both a fan and a/c, especially since it turned out to be a warm weekend (in late Sept), but when in use it can get loud in the small room. There is a pool which we didn't get to use, but looked inviting, although at times we did notice a faint skunk odor around the area.
Noreen was a gracious host and a quick phone call away, she provided us with a lot of local information even before we arrived...such as dog-friendly places in town which we found quite helpful. It was also so thoughtful of Noreen to leave a little goody bag in our room for our pooch, and he knew immediately that it was for him! Another pleasant and welcome surprise was having our rooms cleaned and tidied up each day..even the dishes we left in the sink were washed! It made such a difference to come back at the end of each day to a room that was clean and tidy! We noticed the little attention to details that Noreen did, such as leaving a lamp on in the room for us when we returned in the evening.
One nice find in town was Blue Rocks Market on 7 Carroll Ave. It's a gourmet deli that we went to every day to either pick up breakfast or a variety of delicious dishes (including cheeses, charcuterie and hors d'oeuvres) that we brought back to the Murray House for light snacks or dinner! Check them out!
Thank you Noreen for a lovely weekend! We hope to come and stay at the Murray House again for future Newport visits.
