“GREAT HARBOR CRUISE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

We had a great time on this harbor cruise. The staff on the boat were very friendly and the refurbished lobster boat was in immaculate condition. Tour lasted about 1 1/2 hrs and they pointed out several interesting sights. The Del's lemonade was great! The boat was not overcrowded and we had plenty of room to move around.

Glad you enjoyed your time aboard the Gansett and our complimentary Rhode Island specialty of Del's. We also serve other Captain’s “treats” on board - Warwick ice cream, Cabinet shakes (similar to a coffee milk shake), Yacht Club Soda, RI quahogs (or “stuffies),” Narragansett beers and Autocrat coffee – all from the smallest state (but with the a heart).

“Can't say enough good things!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

My husband and I arrived in Newport a little later than planned so we missed going on the cruise recommended by friends. Lucky for us, Bailey at the Visitors Center, sent us here. You are treated like friends! From ticket purchase to the actual boat tour, it was a great pleasure to experience! The beautiful re-purposed lobster boat, Gansett, is obviously the pride and joy. This boat was meticulously maintained (We live on the south shore of Long Island and know and love boats!!) The crew was fantastic, the tour was informative, fun and relaxing (we sat up top) I got to enjoy the local beverage, Coffee Cabinet(shake) Delicious! I highly recommend taking this tour, As I said, it felt like being with friends.

Thanks so much for your glowing report Jean! The Newport Visitor's Center just a few blocks from our dock at Aquidneck Lobster is a great place to plan your time in Newport and purchase your tickets for the Gansett. Come back and visit us again.

“A good alternative look at Newport”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012 via mobile

I rated the value 5 because we got our tickets through Groupon. I honestly don't know what the full fare is but, because the boat was packed and booked for days, it must be quite reasonable. Once on board the crew greeted us with a few bad jokes and an assortment of complementary soft drinks. After leaving the dock the tone changed to a serious discourse on the sights and history of the area. It included information about the town and the bay that a casual visitor would be unlikely to learn without doing considerable research and laced with bits of trivia about the Kennedy's and other notables who have graced Newport and Aquidneck Island where Newport is situated. Narraganset Bay can be quite brisk and a midday cruise is recommended in cooler weather. Also, remember that the boat, a converted lobster boat, is not an ocean liner and is subject to wave motion. If you are inclined to feel discomfort from the motion take precautions so you can enjoy the whole trip.

Thank you for your great review Dave. The adult fare on the Gansett is $25. Our guides spend a considerable amount of time researching and working with local historians on what passengers will see out in the Harbor and Bay. Next year we planning trips in conjunction with the Newport Historical Society.

Now and then the wind and waves pick up when we head out in Narragansett Bay, so you’ll want to bring a jacket or sweater. One passenger referred to our fully renovated lobster boat as “her personal luxury yacht!” Come back and visit with us again.

“Great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

Just wanted to let you know what a great job the crew did taking care of our special needs girl (11 years old dog).

This is the first time we've used Gansett and both my husband and I were very please!! We especially appreciate the care, we could not be more happy with the service.

The Gansett is on the top of my list now, excellent tour all around!

Your review is most appreciated Barry. We’re delighted to hear that you, your wife and pet enjoyed your time aboard the Gansett and that you appreciated the service provided by our dedicated crew. As perhaps you know, we’re the only fully narrated 90 minute tour of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay. Come back and tour with us again!

“Nice boat ride”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

The tour started 5min late, back more than 10min early & then end of the tour was filler. If you sit in the front you cannot hear the tour guide speaking. In the description it specifically states drinks and snacks. Only one small cup was served. No snacks were made available. The captain seemed a bit upitty and did not say anything to the passengers on the tour.

Thanks for your review – feedback from our passengers is always most appreciated. Rarely does the Gansett leave the dock late and usually because confirmed passengers have phoned to say they will be delayed for a few minutes. This is the first we heard that if you sit in the bow of the boat you cannot hear the tour guide, as we have speakers throughout the boat. Perhaps it was a windy day on the bay? As our website says, our afternoon treats include complimentary choice of three local favorites: Del's Lemonade, Coffee “Cabinet” Shake, or Warwick Ice Cream while our sunset cruise includes a complimentary Quahog “Stuffie" and Champagne Toast. Other beverages are for sale at a very reasonable cost. Our captain’s focus is always on navigating the boat safely while our guide provides a historical commentary of the many sites in the harbor and bay. We hope you come back again to enjoy a cruise on the Gansett.
