“Wonderful: from the time we stepped in until the second we left.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Wonderly pleasant reception w/ offer of glass of champagne and offer of soft drink for daughter. Upgraded w/o asking to suite. Escorte by Andrew to room. Nice guy, professional, friendly. Bright room with high ceilings lots of light via 3 windows. Bookcase to divide sitting room/kitchentte and bedroom.
Upscale room treats: fresh lavendar popurri, plug in lemongrass ess oil diffuser, robes, slippers, homemade candy at turndown, variety of Keurig flavors, fridge, bar sink, plenty of awesome books to peruse, beautiful view of flowering tulip poplar tree, letter of welcome w/fresh fruit and comp H2o bottles that were replenished at turndown, delivery of fresh milk for hot beverages upon request, lovely nightime dinner at bar with great service and wonderful conversation with other couple at bar, every wait staff and employee pleasant, professional, sincere and helpful and went out of their way to please. Allowed me to return after check out to use fitness facilities when daughter shadowing a Salve Regina student . Small but clean and adequate fitness, very nice warm indoor pool, sauna , steam shower (VERY NICE), did not have any spa services but would next time.
THis MY TA FRIENDS IS NOT SEEN VERY OFTEN EVEN AT 5 STARS. This is a jewel. There are many choices in Newport; Next time I am there, I am at VG. Not even a second thought. And, paid slight discounted price, but still pricey.

Room Tip: Ask for upgrade if to jr suite if possible. Very nice.

We stayed at the Vanderbilt for 2 nights with our 2 toddler sons (2 & 5 yrs) and I must say from the moment we walked out of the car to the time we left, we received nothing but 5 star service. Everyone was so friendly and helpful - from the valet, to checking in, to ordering room service to having breakfast in their garden room. As a small boutique hotel, you really felt welcomed and they were so accommodating to our children which we really appreciated.

The room was fabulous. It was clean, spacious and had great ceilings. Bathrooms had double sinks which was a definitely bonus. We loved having a large mini fridge, complimentary k-cups for the Keurig and microwave too. My kids loved swimming in the indoor pool. The continental breakfast was perfect - croissants were yummy!

The only thing I would say that the hotel might need improve on is their spa services. It's not a full service spa where therapists are there all the time etc...it's more on a need to need basis. My husband got a deep tissue massage and quickly realized that this might have been his therapist's first time giving one as he felt she did not quite know what she was doing. Unfortunately, my husband always gets deep tissue so he really knows what it should feel like.

Overall, we loved the hotel, the staff and rooms. We could walk down to Thames street as well as up to Bellevue Avenue. My kids felt welcomed and so did we. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: I put kids activities as "poor" b/c they were none since it's not a big resort, but th...

The hotel was incredible...the staff was wonderful! We sooo enjoyed Muse. The rooms have so much charm. Beds were so comfortable, rooms were very quiet. Perfect location. Spa was wonderful. Breakfast was yummy. Piano player was THE BEST! Spa looked awesome. Next time, I'll be sure to use it. Very nice meeting room.

Huge, elegant rooms. Outstanding food and service at the restaurant, Muse. Attentive staff - I knew many of their names by the end of the short visit. There was a billing error upon checkout, and it was rectified in the most professional manner. The pool is a real plus for kids, as is the elegant snooker table. And all of this is in the heart of everything in Newport. What a nice 3 days we had....

Room Tip: Room 206. As a Tablet Plus member, we got a free upgrade upon check in. 206 has a huge living room...

We visited this hotel over a year ago when we had dinner at Muse (A phenomenal restaurant and must stop even if you are not staying at the hotel - you will not be disappointed. Ate here 3 nights in a row after I found it last year) and told ourselves we would definitely stay if we ever came back. We did with our kids and the hotel was exceptional. The staff, room size, Comfortable Beds!!!, and overall uniqueness of this property is a must stay for anyone looking for exceptional accommodations.

THis is more than a mere hotel. As you walk in you have a gorgeous horseshoe staircase beckoning exploration, at the top of which is a beautiful small sitting area (see picture below). Beyond the front desk is the glassed in casual restaurant which overlooks an outdoor garden/eating area in nice weather overlooking a beautiful church steeple. There is a billiard room. A bar with a dynamite selection of wine by the glass. A huge indoor swimming pool. An outdoor pool. And a very elegant fine dining restaurant. Icing, the staff is pleasant and ever present with an offer of help. Entering the room assigned to us the ceilings soared upward 20 feet and was graciously laid out with a tall bookcase room divider with a flat screen TV on both sides, one facing the bedroom side and the other the sitting area. Top all this with its location at 41 Mary Street and you are within walking distance of everything lively in Newport. Give it a try your next visit.

Room Tip: The room with the tall ceilings may be room 205, but it is the only room in the hotel with metal key...
