“Pearls made our wedding weekend special...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2009

My family and wedding party took over The Pearls this past October for a four day wedding extravaganza. From day one Ray and his team made us feel right at home. We hosted a welcome BBQ in the backyard that connects the three Inns. The food was amazing. The food continued to be great every morning and our day after Wedding Brunch went off without a hitch even with the rain.

The rooms were beautiful. Each house has its own unique style. We wanted our close family and friends to be together for the long weekend which can be challenging for a group of 27. The layout of the houses made this possible.

The location made it a great place to explore Newport on foot. While staying at The Pearls you are within walking distance from Bowens Wharf and Thames Street.

Pearls made for an unforgettable wedding weekend. Thanks Ray!

My now-fiance and I stayed at Pearls during an off-season period. We needed a Staycation and having enjoyed other B&B's in Newport, decided to stay at Pearls due to their lavish-looking website, as well as a great incentive: Stay one night, get the next night free.
Ray, the owner, seemed quite capable during our phone conversations, letting us know our room was ready early and allowed us convenient parking. We got to the house to find the door unlocked (stayed this way the entire time, whether we were there or not, and overnight).
We had expected a great breakfast as per reviews and website claims, but found no chef in-house (the excuse was it was the off-season), and none other than Ray himself cooking us breakfast in his pajamas. This did not work out so great the second day, when I was served a crispy, burned-brown omelette.
Our room was never cleaned during the time we stayed, nor the fire log replaced, so we could not enjoy these things during our second night.
I feel that in-season and off-season expectations should not differ. The B&B should deliver all its promises of great service and amenities no matter what time of year it is. This was a disappointing trip and we will not be back.

We had stayed the night before at Ocean Cliff and had a miserable night (due to the foghorn- not really their fault), and loud rooms... we moved to the Pearls and had a great stay. The location is the best, close to water, yet far enough away to not be woken by foghorn if you are unlucky enough to stay in a night with fog. Forget about sleeping.

I saw one review where the person came in to find no one, we had the same experience- but its a Bed and Breakfast! A quick call (make sure to have the number on hand) and Ray was there in less than 10 minutes. He showed us the rooms and provided us with a wine bottle (as included in stay) of our choice. He even made our dinner reservations on our behalf and the Moorings and we got a great table by the water, We asked for bagels and salmon for breakfast, and next morning while we were rushing around, there it was! The rooms are all different in feel and vibe, and I loved ours.

We just returned from staying at The Pearls for four days during our daughters wedding in Newport. It was the most incredible spot---both families, plus wedding party, stayed at the Pearls and Ray Meyerson could not have provided a more congenial, delicious, warm, inviting---I could go on. The accommodations were wonderful, the meals--cookout the 1st night, light brunch the day after the wedding for 100!!! Plus terrific breakfasts every morning.
It was the best and we will never forget it. We will be back!! Thank you Ray for providing us with wonderful memories.

Kindest regards,

Nancy Allaire

I have booked (or at least tired to) several people into the Pearls for our wedding and could never get a hold of anyone. Sometimes I would get a hold of Ray, the owner, and he would ask if he could call me back, which never happened.
Frequently, all mailboxes of all 3 phone lines available on the website are full and accept no new messages.
This is terrible. If you cannot meet the demands of your business you need to hire more people!!
And finally, we were charged twice for our stay and have yet to resolve this issue. But how, when no one ever calls you back?!

Lovely place not far from harbour front/ shops etc.
Ray was a great host with nothing being too much to ask.
Other reviews have commented on the cost but this seems to be a Newport thing with many B&B's raising their prices in season and even just for the weekend. We had been offered Pearls and because of the cost looked elsewhere- however despite low advertised prices weekends were as expensive if not more so than at Pearls, so we stayed at Pearls.

The main house was tastefully decorated inside and out, and seemed to be clean. We didn't use any of the faclities so couldn't comment on the spa or hot tub. The lounge areas were comfortable. The whole set up was quite relaxed and it was a bit like being at home. The garden provides a link between the properties at Pearls and was good to relax in with a hammock and chairs.

Breakfast was good with a good choice of buffet including freshly cooked muffins; bagels; smoked salmon; jams fresh orange juice; and coffee. There were also additional cooked items such as french toast, pancakes, sausage & eggs. We were part of a large group though and some of what we had may have been as a special request.

Would I recommend Pearls- yes I would but you need to think wider and think more about Newport as a destination as accommodation IS expensive.

We stayed at one of the other houses away from the main house. Our room / Suite was fantastic, The main room was larger then I expected and the real fire place is a nice touch. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was very spacious. I was amazed at how they remodeled the existing buildings and turned them into these very nice B&B rooms. The breakfast in the main room was amazing. We also had a full kitchen and unlimited wine on the main floor of our house we stayed in. We were in Newport during restaurant week so the food was outstanding and a great value. I gave it a 3 dot for value because I feel it could have been a bit cheaper but it was a way better value then during high season.
