We just returned from the Hiltop Inn. Spent our anniversary there. It was fabulous! The inn itself was amazing. It was recently renovated and opened as an inn within the past year or so. Having only 5 rooms, the place is delightful and private. it is across the street from the Viking Inn, which has received very poor reviews on this site. Anyway, the Hilltop is the sister Inn to The Francis Malbone Inn. The Malbone is right on Thames Street, which I thought might be too noisy, so we picked the Hilltop. It was a very easy walk from the Hilltop to the Thames Street shops and restaurants. The Hilltop was on a busy corner (right on Bellevue and Kay streets), and our room, the Bellevue Suite, faced right onto this intersection. So it was a bit noisy when trucks went by, but the top-quality windows provided good insulation from most of the regular street noise. AC was provided with in-room controls and was very quiet. The other second floor rooms were probably a lot quieter, but our room had a separate living room, with a pull out sofa. The bath was great, with a large two-person shower and two-person jacuzzi. There were 3 flat screen tv's in the suite, including one in the bathroom. Also, wireless internet free in all rooms. The baked goodies at tea and at breakfast were homemade and delicious. There is a choice of 2 entrees at breakfast, a savory (an omelet) and a sweet (blueberry pancakes). These were cooked to order, and even though everyone in the inn showed up for breakfast at once, the delightful inkeeper deftly handled the crowd, and we were on our way to the mansions after a satisfying repast. The only negative was that the pullout sofa was very uncomfortable, according to our 12yo son. He is not a complainer at all, so, I would not count on an adult being able to sleep on it. But overall, this is a 5 star place. We waited until the last minute to make reservations, to make sure the weather would be good, and by waiting until the last minute, we were able to get a great last minute weekday rate, even though it is still prime season. So, if it seems too expensive for your budget, and you can wait until the day or so before, give them a call. The rate was even lower than listed on the website under last minute prices.

First off! Let me say I am Not easy to please. When my Husband and I called to make reservations I was a little hesitant. We picked this B and B based on its location and Proximity to the Synagouge. I couldnt of been more satisfied. From check in to check out, All of my request were addressed with a smile and satisfactory manner. Mellissa ,Janet and Jessica are quite the team. I asked for an early turndown on Saturday. The room was promptly turned down. I asked for suggestion for restaurants and reservations. All were given in a timely and professional manner. Since we can only vaction once or twice a Year I wanted this to be an "experience" I was not dissapointed in any way. At times I can be demanding But, No matter what I asked. I was well taken care of. This is 5 Stars all the way! Hats off to Janet and staff. If they can Please me the masses will be more than satisfied!!!

WE stayed here based on the reviews on tripadvisor yet they are not entirely accurate. The noise factor is extremely bothersome when one is trying to sleep. The price was high for what you got and the service was average. I think we could have gotten better for cheaper. We will look elsewhere next time.

My husband and I stayed in the Murray Room, which is probably the smallest room and yet we absolutely loved staying there. The four poster queen-sized bed with fluffy sheets and bright yellow flowered pillows was adorable. Off this tucked away room on the 2nd floor was a beautiful large bathroom. The service was outstanding by the staff and Janet was awesome! With the door held open at arrival, a cold iced tea handed to me and a cold lemonade to my spouse, a tour of the B&B, and offers to help bring in the luggage...all within the first 1/2 hour...we felt like we were family! The Inn is beautifully restored, the woodwork is lovely, everything is in such great shape, and the sunny breakfast nook with its many windows over looking a fantastic garden landscape was a delight. The afternoon tea was super and the breakfast very nicely done. We walked downtown to Thames Street which was only a few minutes away. The Newport Mansions are just down the road and an easy drive to visit them. The location of the Inn was perfect for a central spot for sightseeing tourists. Even though the Inn is located on the corner of a busy street, we didn't hear any traffic noises, even with our room located on the street side of the building. We loved staying at the Hilltop Inn, and are already planning a return trip!

We called the night before to book a room at their 'last minute' rates (about 25% cheaper). The Inn is 100 years old but has been completely redone within the last few years. Everything is pristine. The staff at Hilltop was very charming and service oriented. We were tourists but we felt like we were visiting a favorite Aunt.
The rooms were lovely but we felt the decor was a bit dark. Maybe it was the lamps with no wattage in the bulbs that was the problem. The bathrooms (we stayed in 2 different rooms-by choice) were very large, with beautiful, very European, fixtures. They were the best we have experienced in an Inn!
The breakfast they offered was creative and good. Yet I thought the bacon (microwave type) and the sausage (heat and serve) were tasteless and a bit odd for this fabulous place.
