“Loved it cant wait to go back!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2010

We traded a timeshare week elsewhere for Xmas week here at the wellington resort. 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms were bigger then my house. Directly overlooking the bay and bridge with a wall of sliding glass doors.
Quick walk into town a plus. Indoor heated pool very nice. Workout room upstairs though cold. If i can get a week here in the summer id be happy happy happy. Flat screen TV, maybe 40" in the living room. A fireplace that burned real wood in the living room. Only one complaint that id have and that is this. There is a huge kitchen and gigantic dining room table to seat 10 people. Why is there no stove for cooking? There is a microwave and electric frying pan only for cooking. Odd.
Anyway, who wanted to cook all week? Not me. We ate microwaved dinners and ordered out from nearby places. It was a cold and snowy week, but incredibly beautiful and such a nice place to spend time with your loved ones.

Went to Newport for a funeral and needed a place with family space for a week. This place was excellent. We rented a 2 bedroom unit for a week at a rate that was awesome. Can't imagine staying at a hotel with this place so close to town, shops, stores, restaurants etc.
The staff was friendly helpful and I just can't say enough about the room. Awesome view of the harbor, clean, nice decor, with a fireplace and a full kitchen. Too many restaurants to think about cooking but it was nice to have a full size refrigerator and a coffee pot.
Having 2 bathrooms traveling with teenage girls is a luxury we couldn't imagine but this place had it complete with showers and a garden tub in the master.
My advice don't hesistate this place is the best in town.
No room service or maids it's your condo away from home not a hotel which we really liked.

The resort is in an excellent location and the room was spacious. However, the addition of a stove would be helpful as would a recliner since some people have health problems that require elevation of legs, even when on a vacation. What I found most distressing was the fact that the room was not even cleaned once during our week long stay and a vacuum was not to be found in the room. It did have a useless manual carpet sweeper and upon check out we were advised that we could have gotten a vacuum cleaner if we had called the front desk. Why wasn't this published in the informational bulletin or mentioned upon check in? A week of timeshare is expensive. To have to clean your own accomodations and not get a one time cleaning is ludicrous. To have to strip your bedding and make sure the dishwasher is loaded and running is also irritating. I assume RCI ownership requires a yearly maintenance fee and am only assuming this since the timeshare we own is through Hilton. The plus of a Hilton timeshare is that they clean the units, change towels, provide dish washing liquid, toilet paper, plastic garbage can liners and don't require you to do most of the cleaning chores before you depart. Take your own dishwashing liquid as it is not provided and toilet paper, paper towels and garbage bags, as they are not replenished once you run out. Only four rolls of toilet paper were furnished. Nice resort-lousy supplies and no cleaning service unless you pay for it. Why would a timeshare investment in RCI be worthwhile if all RCI resorts operate like the Wellington? Additionally, the high speed internet is only obtainable in the club house. Even a cheap Super 8 in Ava, Missouri has high speed internet in the room.

The Wellington is a very attractive timeshare apartment complex with several buildings. Except for the pools and other amenities, it’s more like renting a vacation condominium than staying in a hotel or a full-service resort. It is not a hotel and is not set up for hotel-like service, and the term "resort" might unintentionally be a little misleading. There is no food available for purchase on the premises. We were off-season, so there were not many people around, and it was very quiet. We did not use the pools, but did stroll around the grounds on the waterfront.

My wife and I couldn’t have asked for more. It lived up to our expectations. Our two-night stay at the end of October was great. Our spacious 2nd-floor apartment (ground floor is for parking) was beautifully furnished. It had one bedroom (king bed) with a TV and a balcony off the bedroom overlooking a pleasant residential street, a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area, which easily accommodated a table and six chairs. The living room had a gas fireplace, which we didn’t use, and a wall-mounted flat-screen TV and DVD player. We had a balcony with a spectacular view of the bay through a large window and sliding doors in the living and dining areas. In addition, there was a washer and dryer. The apartment was spotless and everything looked brand new. We got ice cubes from the office right after we checked in, and by the next morning the refrigerator had produced an adequate supply. There was a start-up supply of basics, such as paper towels, trash bags, toilet paper, detergents, soap, coffee filters (no coffee or any other food), etc. Additional supplies are the responsibility of the renter. There are supermarkets nearby--6/10th of a mile to a Stop & Shop with a large deli. We did not have maid service. If you want housekeeping services, the charge is $50. We had to clean up per written instructions before checking out--linens and towels deposited in the bathroom, empty the refrigerator, put dishes in the dishwasher and turn it on, carry trash downstairs to the trash bin.

At check-in, we were given a detailed list of items in the apartment (towels, linens, small appliances, etc.), which we were asked to verify with what was there and sign. We welcomed this as protection for us. There are lots of rules, which could be off-putting to some, but nothing unreasonable.

Because of our apartment’s layout, it could be rented as a two-bedroom unit. A lockable door into the apartment leads into an entry foyer with two more lockable doors—one into the main apartment and the other into the second bedroom with bath. The door into the main apartment could be kept unlocked, even propped open, to provide an integrated two-bedroom unit, which we would consider renting if traveling with other people. I gather the second bedroom can be rented to other people--a potential problem with heating and cooling because the single thermostat is in the foyer. Fortunately, the second bedroom was not rented when we were there (at least we didn’t hear anyone).

The resort is 4/5th of a mile from the Newport Visitors Center, slightly removed from the busiest commercial areas (restaurants and shops) on the route to and from the center.

We booked the apartment by telephone directly with the resort and not through a rental agent. We paid $167.50 per night, including all taxes. The rate was described as a “special.” We were told that the regular rate is twice that. We were also told that they often have specials and if interested in staying again, we should call to find out if any specials are available. When we checked-in, they reserved (didn't actually charge) an additional $200 on our charge card to cover damage we might do.

All staff were extremely courteous and helpful. We would definitely stay there again, depending on what's available and at what price, and (given the unhappy experiences of some other reviewers) I would ask for a thorough description of the rental units available before committing.

We have stayed at the Wellington for many years and it is always great. The location is perfect- an easy walk down Thames to all of the shops and restaurants. The pool area is great, although usually full of kids and families but there is plenty of space for everyone. The rooms are nice, not extravagant but when in Newport you spend minimal time in your room. There is no room cleaning service throughout your stay but there is a kitchenettte and washer/dryer in the units. We stay in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite with a large living area, great balcony viewing the pool/ocean and also a balcony off of the master bedroom. The parking is easy and convenient. They have the best location for the 4th of July Fireworks! The only negative is the expense but we will continue to stay at the Wellington.
