“Depends on your room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

We made last minute plans to visit Newport and settled on the Long Wharf. After reading the reviews, we were very worried about how we'd find the room as these are individually owned units. We were fortunate to get a good room that was very clean and in very good shape. As others have said, it could probably use a little upgrade in decor but the two bedroom is huge. We didn't use the facilities very much butthey seemed adequate. The pool actually looked pretty nice.

Front Desk staff is the best. Very accommodating. Security is VERY GOOD. I have stayed here four time this summer and all rooms were comfortable and super clean. Beds were especially comfortable! I can't believe some of the comments for this last month. I did see this one lady at the resort going on about the so called robbery. She called the police and don't know what happened. I believe she was a scam artist though, because she kept changing her story and her list of stolen items kept multiplying as she told her story loudly to everyone there. I heard later that there was no proof of any entry to her room at the times she indicated items were stolen. There are safes in the room and deadbolts on the door and I felt super safe. Beware the very best of reviews and the very worst, because they are usually from those who have their own agenda.

July 26 - Aug 2nd 2013 .

I booked a week stay for myself, daughter and granddaughter and 2 girlfriends . On the 1st night when I arrived there was a man in the room , no name tag , no uniform, who said he was there on behalf of the owner fixing a mirror. On the 2 nd day , three large plastic bags of 6 towel sets each were in my hallway when I arrived home from an outing . No dirty towels were taken away ; no new towels set out. on the 5th night without forced entry , my Ferragamo purse, $1200 Cash , IPad, DSLR Nikon 5100 + 2 Lens + Case + Charger , Channel Sunglasses, Car Keys ( inside purse), wallet with License , Credit & ATM cards and Social Security Card were stolen.

The hotel offered no compensation , no change of room , no additional security by changing the keys . They , Resort Manager , Desriee Trull , suggested I call Guest Services, Activity Manager , Cat , offered to call the Police and Maintenance Manager , Sean Stone ,admitted to having 10 IPads. They offered no ride to HONDA to have the keys made for the Car, chits for breakfast ,lunch or dinner or even an apology .

I called the Regional VP , Tara Kreutz , and she suggested I call the Owner ( Time Share) who she feels is ultimately responsible . She also suggested a call & letter to Guest Services.

I find the lack of accountability outrageous. It was a group of young employees who were more worried about their process and procedures then about making the guest comfortable and safe. I was extremely frightened and could not leave as I had no car keys , no ID to rent a car , and no money or Credit Card to so .

I would not stay at this resort until they add Security Cameras to the Entrances / Exits and take accountability for the cleaning staff . Ms Trull claims that each entry is logged in. However, I found later that a certain group of employees have keys that do not register on the Interrogated Lock System they employ. And one of those employees is the man I met in my room on Friday , July 26th , 2013 when I 1st entered the room . HUGE SECURITY RISK !

Room Tip: Do not stay at this hotel . If you must , DO NOT STAY IN TOWER , 3 bedroom condo, isolated and high...

We booked two condos in July. One three bedroom and one two bedroom to accommodate 13 family members ranging from seniors to thirteen. The location was within walking distance to Thames St and many wharfs. Lots of restaurants and shops to keep our group busy.

Beaches were within a couple if miles. There was a Walmart and a nice grocery store (Shaws) with two miles also. Shaws had a really nice produce section and many ethnic foods to choose from

The Wyndham staff was very
Nice and accommodating. Our refrigerator did no work and it was replaced within a half hour of our call. My son dropped his drivers permit and they promptly returned it.

I did think that the living room/kitchen area in the 3br unit was not large enough to accommodate the eight people that condo was supposed to hold. Thank goodness the 2br area was larger. The pool area ran out of towels and didn't have them for hours one afternoon.

All in all this place was awesome and we will definitely be back.

the resort was nice, but for a power wheelchair user it was difficult to access unless you have full upper body control. There are no automatic doors or even push pad access doors. you need to access all areas with a key card. There was a handicap lift for the indoor and outdoor pools that lower you as much as you want into the water. The game room was ground floor level was accessible as was the movie theater. We had a first floor condo unit. It was clean and well equipped with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. One was handicap--however the shower was a very tight fit with a wooden bench seat that could lift up. It was just large enough for our son's shower chair. the sink was not wheelchair accessible. the toilet seat was ADA height and there were grab bars. Over all the bathroom was large enough to maneuver a wheelchair in. bedrooms large enough to get the wheelchair next to bed for transferring.
We had a kitchen in the unit that was well equipped. For some reason they do not provide housekeeping services for "short "stays???--(we stayed 5 nights)
There was no resort fee thank you very much, as it has become tiresome for all the resorts to charge a "fee" to use the property !! Free parking also

There is no food available at the resort, but there is free coffee and tea in the lobby every AM. It is an easy walk right across the street to the yacht club and Belle's cafe for Wonderful Breakfasts! Admire the huge million dollar yachts while you are there~~~you can also go right next door to the Marriot for breakfast.
The resort is next door to a nice pub the Celtica which is accessible for wheelchairs. the pub had great fries and burgers as well as a good lobsta roll. very nice selection of beers and cocktails and quiet place to avoid the noise and business of the other pubs

It is a breeze to walk to everything from the long wharf~~~end of the block is a baseball stadium, where you can catch a Gulls game, walk to Thames street and all the shops in the various "wharfs" where you can book a sailboat cruise. Plenty of shopping and eateries. The Marriot is right next door for the Ghost tour, Fathom's pub or an excellent Spa.
The staff was lovely and helpful, although the desk staff could have been better informed about the area.

The location was near restaurants and shopping. The staff was not really friendly or helpful, the ac was broken so we got moved to a different room . The AC there sounded like heavy machinery. Rooms are small but adequately stocked.
