“Why go here for Pizza or seafood?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

Via Via is a late night stop in Newport RI. Why go here when there are so many other pizza places and seafood restaurants in the area. The place is not clean and is not owned or managed by Italians.

If I go to a Greek restaurant I want it owned and operated by Greeks.Same thing as a Mexican Restaurant. If you want real food go to the real deal.

This place is for drunks who don'r know any better.

“Tasty late night pizza”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2012

Walked in around 11:30pm - midnight and they had a whole cheese pizza ready to go, that's not bad service. They were getting a lot of late night tipsy/drunk people in and needed to keep a steady stream of pizza flowing. The pizza was nice and hot. Crust was a bit thin and not great and didn't love the sauce. It filled the late Friday night void, but I wouldn't order it on a normal occasion. I think it was around $13 for a large, had to pay in cash so don't have the receipt or credit history to be able to know for sure.

“Thank Goodness for this place!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2012

This is the only place for late night food; and boy does it deliver!! I have to say this was the ONLY place that we went to where the prices were reasonable. DELICIOUS pizza, great (and funny) service, and I can't say too much about the atmosphere since it was kind of late, and I'm convinced we were the only two sober people around (excluding the staff).
Try the buffalo chicken! :) Yum!

(There's a smoothie place attached too!)

“C'mon...Wash your hands when the customer asks!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2012

Went here twice, primarily for their fun, easy, and tasty offerings. Trouble was the second time, the waitperson was cleaning -- which is actually a good thing! He took my order and started to open up the bins. "Don't mean to be a pain, but would you mind washing your hands before scooping?" He told me that he was the manager and washes his hands every ten minutes so I don't need to worry. "I just don't want the taste of Windex on my ice cream." He explained that it was not Windex but some anti-bacterial spray. Okay. But can't you wash your hands? Nope! I don't know why I accepted the ice cream, but I just couldn't eat it. The manager took a good thing -- diligently cleaning up nooks and crannies and serving me excellent tasting ice cream -- and turned it into a very negative experience where I threw away my money, have a yucky taste in my mouth, and a lack of trust. I realize that many customers late at night are drunk, and that there are primarily kids behind the counters, why not simply wash your hands if a customer is concerned enough to ask? (Or even, set up a "manager's rule" that after cleaning something, you need to wash your hands before serving customers?) So, 4 stars for fun pizza joint. 1 star for accommodating customer's concern. I don't think we'll be going back...

“Most Reviewers are Idiots”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2012

Via Via is NOT a sit down restaurant. It is a pizza place you call and order out. There is a dining area, however, clearly, based on the sparse nature and lack of interior decor, the interior area is only meant for people who are picking up food to sit and wait, or for drunk college kids to eat at 2 a.m.

Via Via is a popular late night food spot for drunk college kids, why? (1) Because it is close to the bars (2) because it is open later than the bars (3) because it offers pizza by the slice (ie an inexpensive food option for people who are usually broke after spending all their money on alcohol) (3) because it has fast service at night (4) because it has customarily been a late night food spot since it opened many years ago.

Besides late night food, Via Via offers excellent pizza for people who want to order good original pizza.

The specialty pizzas at the bottom of the menu are INCREDIBLE. They are cooked in a brick oven and use fresh ingredients. The spinach mushroom pizza is my favorite. There are large servings of fresh ricotta cheese clumped all over it. The mushrooms are cooked in a wine sauce to perfection. The all white pizza is also good. The bacon chicken ranch and bbq chicken are good "american pizzas" when you dont care FTW you are going to eat something unhealthy and enjoy it.

The pizzas compare to a degree with the better Pasta beach and cost 40% less.

Again, great pizza when you order out for dinner. Not a place to sit down and eat.
