“Tucked Away Treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2014

We visit Newport often and have stayed at many fine inns and hotels but the Attwater was quite a pleasant surprise. The hotel was tucked away but close to all that Newport has to offer. The service was simply a joy. Brad and Meghan made us feel quite at home. We booked a King Suite and it was spacious and felt much like a European boutique hotel. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the décor bright and pleasant, the accommodations spacious and amenities with a thoughtful touch. The room was immaculate. We're looking forward to making this our regular overnight favorite place to stay for relaxation and a bit of true warmth and hospitality. Thank you for your hospitality.

Though off the beaten path, this cute boutique b&b/hotel has everything you could ask for: attentive service, good location to main attractions without the hubbub (. 5 mile walk to Thames), and great amenities (apple tv's and rentable iPad to boot) and room layout. Love the modern look built into the quirky old school Newport mansion layout. Perfect stay for the yuppies!

I've stayed at a few places in Newport and by far, this is the best.

The Attwater is a small property and borders more on a very big B&B than a hotel but it ticks all boxes. Incredibly central, one street back from Bellevue Avenue (Mansion Row), sleek, incredibly stylish interiors, clean and fantastic service.

Great breakfast included in the room rate and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly.

It would be great to see more places like this!

My only negative comment is that being an old building, the walls are not incredibly soundproof so if you're a light sleeper, take ear plugs just to be on the safe side.

Would absolutely stay here again.

Immaculate, charming, contemporary small hotel. Staff was unobstrusive and always helpful and friendly. Breakfasts were amazing -- carefully and skillfully prepared and delicious. Would love to return to this relaxing, comfy and well-located hotel!

Thank you for your recommendation. We think think "immaculate, charming, contemporary hotel" describes us to a "T." It means a lot that you found our staff both helpful and unobtrusive -- that is what we strive for -- and that you loved our breakfast, decor and location. This is a small. Contemporary hotel in downtown location. Toons are clean comfortable and very tastefully decorated. However what's special is the staff. Breakfast is delicious different and healthy. Very helpfully. Coffee and tea always available. Elena was especially accommodating to us. We'd love to return

Room Tip: No elevator so if stairs are an issue be sure to ask the floor

Stayed here earlier this week and thought it was a lovely place. Normally stay in large chain hotels, so was relying on the other reviews to be accurate as this is anything but a large chain hotel. On arrival it looks like a residential home in a very quiet street just off the main road in Newport. However, as soon as you enter you are struck by it's quiet sophistication. The decor is very modern, there is quiet but modern music playing in the background and you are greeted with a huge smile from Megan behind the desk. Nothing is too much trouble for her and she is a great face for the hotel. The rooms are lovely (though no lift so disabled guests would need to be on the ground floor I suspect), with modern yet classy decor and really comfy beds. You are given an iPad filled with local attractions to help you find out what to do, where to eat etc, and you really do feel well looked after. Breakfast is a highlight...home cooked by Megan, with banana and peanut butter scones, still warm, muffins, egg dishes etc etc and as much coffee/tea etc. as you want. I would DEFINITELY recommend this place to anyone staying in Newport, and for the price it really is a steal!

We were scheduled to come to the Attwater on our honeymoon but a pet medical emergency happened (it had a happy ending), and Shawn and Megan worked with us so that we could come the following week, and then gave us an upgrade to a King room. Shawn gave us a very warm welcome and we felt cared for and spoiled throughout our short stay. Our room was lovely and light filled, and a great place to return to after long walks around chilly Newport and the Cliff Walk. Super comfortable bed

We own an inn in Maine and told Shawn we are are stealing their idea of elegant, fruit-filled espresso cups at breakfast. Megan made wonderful scones and an egg and cheese dish that we couldn't resist. Great stay. We hated to leave.

We love to hear when folks hate to leave! We also take it as a great compliment when a hospitality person decides to imitate something we do. We're so glad you enjoyed the comfortable bed and the service of Megan and Shawn. Please come visit our Newport RI hotel again the next time you can get away from your inn in Maine.
