“Good BBQ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

We found this place that didn't look like very much but it very good. In October it was a little chilly so this outdoor restaurant had plastic down to protect us from the cool weather and rain. The food was reasonably priced and very good.

“Tasty food with generous portions at a reasonable price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

Who wants to spend a ton of money every time you go out to eat while on vacation? We have a timeshare in Newport and have been to the Smoke House Cafe three times in the past two years. The food is tasty, the portions are huge, and the service is great. My husband and I shared one of the platters, and there was plenty for the both of us. It's fun eating in the open air and is much less expensive than eating at nearby Bowen's Wharf.

“A Welcome Bit of the South Where You'd Least Expect It”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

In a town overly populated with all things tourist and nautical, the Smoke House Cafe is a welcome respite from the endless, local seafood and wanting-to-be-trendy restaurants. Dallas, New Orleans, Savannah and Charleston, watch out - you've got serious competition here. The Smoke House is a very informal, outdoor-under-the-tent, picnic-table spot right in the middle of tourist-central on Americas Cup Avenue. In our many visits to Newport, we've always enjoyed at least one hearty meal there (if not two or three), and have never been disappointed. Service is the friendliest in town, and the bar is a terrific place to just hang out for a few beers and some good BBQ. As others have mentioned, portions are huge and prices are extremely reasonable. Food is very fresh and prepared as good BBQ should be - not dependent on dollops of sauce but instead on quality ingredients and proper cooking. Nothing is greasy, and every dish we've ever had has been as tasty as anything we've had down South in the BBQ homelands. Be sure to stop by for lunch next time you're in town.

“Good flavor, quick service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

Try the hog wings, nachos and sampler platter (enough for 2 people to share). The fried okra is flavorful but slightly too breaded. The service is courteous and extremely quick to deliver food and drinks once ordered.

“Good!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

Have been to the smokehouse twice now. The food is good- and portions are huge. Got a platter/combo the first time- too much food! Got a sandwich the second time- still left full. It's a nice change from the usual seaside/seafood touristy newport restaurant.

My only gripe is that the barstools and tables at the bar are ridiculously uncomfortable. which might be ok for a drink at the bar, but to sit for dinner... no good. We asked to move down to the back, which is more picnic table seating, and it was much better.
