“Great food at a classic tavern!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

After a long walk along the harbor, we decided to lunch at the Black Pearl. We were glad we did. We chose to sit inside, instead of the outdoor seating as it was very warm. I ordered the black and blue tuna salad. The superbly prepared ahi tuna came on a bed of lettuce, along side fresh ginger, wasabi and seaweed salad. It was the best ahi tuna I ever had! My husband ordered the chicken and wild rice soup and chicken pot pie. The soup was very good, but very salty, however he loved the pot pie. We also were served warm rolls which were crispy on the outside and doughy on the inside. They were wonderful, as was the apple raisin bread pudding. Service was very good and waitress was friendly, but the gnats were a little annoying. Great food and location...definitely a winning combination!

“Ice tea for $3.25? Chowder was watery.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013 via mobile

Atmosphere and service was ok but the chowder was watery and drink prices are not shown. So, if you order ice tea, you'll get hit with 3.25! I'd look around a little more if you're on the wharf.

“Excellent Seafood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

We stayed at the Attwater Hotel and they recommended that we eat at Black Pearl. It is situated on a Wharf in the Centre of Newport. there is outdoor seating however there is a more limted menu which we were disappointed with as the area is beautoful and you are sitting just a few feet from yachts. We moved into the restaurant and it was noisy when we arrived but got les so when one party moved on. We had cod topped with pepperjack cheese and the lobster tail both of which were beautiful. Service was ok, waited a little long to have our order taken but everything worked out.

“If only for the chowder go here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

Chowder is a must.
Drinks at outside bar and take in the sites, and relax after a day sailing or shopping on Thames.
Staff is attentive and helpful in making selections.
Very busy on weekends but weekday no problem....at least in September.

“Outstanding food, wine and service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

We were a bit confused by the last negative ratings as the food was just excellent and the service very obliging!

We chose the lobster bisque and crab cake as our starters which were both absolutely delicious! For the main course we had scampis, scallops and lobster and we can't think of another place where we've eaten seafood prepared so freshly and tasty! Furthermore, the food went perfectly with the white wine the waiter recommended.

As a dessert, we also shared a crėme brulée and that was truly the icing on the cake! We will definitely be back!!
