I've been to the Black Pearl several times. According to many tourists, it is a must see restaurant. Being a local, I try to sample as many restaurants as possible, tourist trap or not.
I ate on the outside patio, which is a very nice choice on a warm summer day. The outside bar is a plus, but choosing to eat actual food here is not a good idea. The menu on the patio is standard sandwiches, burgers, light fare. I ordered the famous clam chowder that so many people boast about, and to me it was mediocre at best. From word of mouth, I've heard that their clam chowder is from a can and simply doctored up, and it tastes exactly like what it is (if you're looking for good chowder or lobster bisque, try Benjamin's across the street). The waitstaff was arrogant and unattentive (I could never get a hold of them to get another soda), and could care less about how your meal was. All in all, the food was overpriced and the restaurant lived up to its reputation as a tourist trap. Definitely pass this one up.
