“a newport institution”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

Old and dark inside, and maybe not the most inspired menu in the world, but food is consistently good, and the chowder is the best. Sitting on the patio is a nice option in the summer (but the menu is limited). The commodore's room (in the back) is fancier, with a different menu. More expensive, but food is outstanding. And there is also the hot dog annex outside if you don't feel like waiting.

“Bad Service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

Food did arrive all together. Special fries were delivered when we were done eating. My husband ordered special fries which actually didn't arrive until after he had finished his main course.

“Great food, casual atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

We had lunch here. Great food, good price, very interesting atmosphere. Its a mix of pub and finer dining. But come as your are! Nice bar area, and an outdoor tavern area as well.

“The Commodore's Room -- Always Great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

I've been to the Commodore's Room at the Black Pearl on many occasions and always have enjoyed it. Yes, it's pricey. But the service, food, drinks and ambiance are always excellent. The room itself, with its low ceiling, varnished wood floor, and walls painted a dark, high-gloss green is reminiscent of a 18th-19th century admiral's cabin or New England tavern. The waiters can be crusty, but are knowledgeable and efficient. And the soups, salads, and beef and seafood entrees are always well-prepared. I have never had a bad meal or found any cause for complaint and cannot recommend it too highly.

“Good New England seafood right on the wharf”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

Good service, very good clam chowder. Great for lunch or dinner. Wharf area is scenic for walking around. Good fresh seafood. Fairly pricey, and there was a wait to be seated.
