“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2014

Stayed for 4 nights- 2 BR. Walking distance to many attractions. A good walk to Bellevue ave with mansions and cliff walk ( although most of cliff walk was closed for repairs). Living area had 2 balconies- one on either side. Living area was sparsely decorated but very clean and comfortable. Parking spot was covered, which was helpful on rainy days. Had a problem with leaking water heater, but replaced it immediately. Did not use indoor pool, since you had to walk outdoors to access and weather was cold.

We stayed here for a weekend getaway and was pleasantly surprised. The lobby/check-in area is brand new. We stayed in a 2-bedroom suite and it was nicely appointed. The location is perfect - right in the heart of it all. I would definitely come back.

This Wyndham does need to be renovated but it is still a nice resort to stay at. Maintenance personnel were prompt to fix any item not up to standard. Our refrigerators compressor was louder than acceptable, so they tried to fix it and then replaced it, all done fast and efficiently.
It was a very cold weekend and some of the windows did have a draft but this is only due to the guest having the ability to open or close the windows, which means that if you stay at any other season you can enjoy fresh outside air during your stay.
The heating system had no problem maintaining room temperature.
We kept our room cool and spent romantic evenings by the fire place in our room and enjoyed the night view of harbor.

We have been staying here for about 5 years now, almost always in December! Most people love Newport in the summer, which is also lovely, but we love it in the winter! There are great shops and restaurants nearby. We love going ice skating and then back to the condo to light a fire, have some hot chocolate and watch a good holiday movie! Perfect way to celebrate the holiday season! The staff is amazing! Always friendly and helpful. The room is spacious and clean, as well as well stocked to start our week off right. We have a two bedroom and a pull out couch in the living room. There's also a really nice deck and an indoor pool! Can't say enough good things!!!!! Love, love, love!

We recently had the opportunity to getaway for a long week-end in Newport, RI as quests with another couple. There was a mix-up with the unit and to make amends, the Wyndham graciously offered us TWO suites instead of the just the single suite one we were given. This allowed each of us (two couples) to have our complete privacy while still being right next door to each other. Our 2-bedroom suite was superb in all regards and afforded us an especially nice, quiet, romantic getaway that was even nicer than we had planned. Searching their website, I found that Wyndham has numerous sites throughout the U.S. and I most certainly would stay at another without hesitation.....i.e.their facility in the Berkshire Mountains of Western MA.

Room Tip: Our suite was on the third floor, and had sliders overlooking the harbour as well as the Main Street...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

My wife and I spent Christmas week at Newport On Shore. Although we knew that it could be denied, a couple of weeks prior to arrival we called the resort to request a top floor unit so as to have a quiet stay. We were pleased to be assured at that time that we would be assigned a top floor room. While waiting at the front desk to check in, we overheard someone who was also checking in ask for 6 keys, as he was expecting a lot of company. He also mentioned that very young children would be among his guests. When we were given our keys, the woman checking us in confirmed that it was a top floor unit. However when we went to our unit it was on the 3rd floor, not the 4th, which is the top. In addition, the person who asked for the 6 keys rode the elevator to the top floor in our building. When I went back to the front desk to remind them of their assurances, I was told simply that they do not guarantee any particular room. I told them that I understood that, but we were, in fact told both over the phone and just a few minutes earlier that we could have a top floor room. As the woman who told us that had left in the interim, it was explained that she simply made a mistake, and our room would be on the 3rd floor. My point in explaining this is that there was a cavalier attitude about reversing their commitment to us without so much as an apology, and that attitude did not create a good first impression about the front desk staff.
That said there seem to be two units per floor, and either the people upstairs were on the other end of the hall from our unit, or the sound insulation in these units is excellent, as we didn't hear a thing from any of our neighbors all week.
The timeshare unit itself was very large and well laid out. We had a two bedroom with two baths. The bedrooms were on either end of the unit and exited from those ends to the kitchen area on the guest end and the living room area on the other. Between was the dining room. We had guests that first weekend and it felt as though they had their own suite down the other end. There are also two large decks, one off each end. One of the decks had a view of the ocean. There was a massive king sized bed in the master bedroom and two double beds in the second bedroom. The couch is a pullout, and some of our guests slept there and found it quite comfortable. There is also a fireplace in the living room. It was a nice touch that we were provided with a faux log at check in that functions as a fire starter. We bought some firewood at the local grocery store and had a nice fire during the week.
The kitchen is small, but functional with stove, microwave, dishwasher, and refrigerator. It was well stocked with utensils, nice but oversized bowls and wine glasses, a blender, toaster and dishwear and glasswear. The sink however was very small and had a faucet that does not rotate from side to side and does not extend far enough into the sink. It made washing dishes by hand difficult. Nice touches in the kitchen were packets of cocoa and popping corn.
The master bathroom was very large with good closet space and a door between the sink and toilet/tub areas. The tub is a whirlpool type, which we did not use so can't comment on it's function. There is also an over/under washer/dryer off the master bath, and detergent was supplied. The shower in the second bathroom has a showerhead at both ends to handle two people at a time. We've never seen that before in a timeshare unit.
There is wireless internet access in the units that worked pretty well.
Aside from the broken assurances from the front desk staff, there are only a couple of complaints that we had about the unit. We noticed that the heat cycled on and off frequently to keep the place up to temperature which we set at about 68 degrees. As the week progressed, it became clear why. For one thing, the flue on the fireplace had been left open and heat was escaping up the chimney. We noticed this later in the week when we made a fire. Also, the temperature dropped quite low later in our stay, and when I went to bed on that first cold night, I noticed a freezing cold draft coming from the window beside the bed. It had gotten quite windy and the wind was whipping in off of the ocean. Unfortunately, the windows in that room do not seat properly into the sills, and there is a quarter to a half inch gap at the bottom of both of the windows. It was not possible to get the window to close all the way, so I had to roll up towels and stuff them in the gaps in order not to be cold. One would think that in this day of energy conservation awareness (and high timeshare maintenance fees!) that these type of problems would not be allowed to occur. The windows need to be fixed, and housekeepers should be told to check the flues when they clean the units.
Another issue is that there was an old type TV in the second bedroom, a small flat screen in the master bedroom, and a large flat screen in the living room. These are all on cable. There was a Blu-Ray player attached to the living room TV. All good so far. Unfortunately, the picture resolution was poor. More like what you'd expect to get on an old VCR tape. It seems that either the management simply wants to impress visually by having flat screen TVs, but has no concern for picture quality, or they simply don't know what they are doing in this respect. There is simply no point in having a high definition HDTV if you don't subscribe to HD programming from your cable provider. Otherwise, the low quality source signal renders the HD capability of the TV irrelevant. I was impressed with the Blu-Ray player which is a high definition source if you can rent a hi-def DVD somewhere. But in looking behind the TV to see if maybe the problem was just some loose cables, I discovered to my amazement that the Blu-Ray was connected to the TV, not with an HDMI cable, or even a component cable, but rather a cheap composite cable that won't even pass anything close to an HD signal. What could they be thinking? On the upside, they did include both HBO and HBO-2 in their programming which in my experience is rare at timeshares and is to be commended. My guess is that their maintenance people simply do not understand the technology. Otherwise, why would they hook it up that way?
We used the indoor swimming pool which was ok, and there is a large sauna in the pool complex which worked well. The fitness area leaves much to be desired, with only three aerobic type machines and some dumbbells. No free weights and no universal machine. I like to work out when I go away, but this place depressed me so I did not use it. My wife used the treadmill.
Overall, we had a good time and this is a very decent timeshare. The unit was large and looked newly re-done. The location is top notch for enjoying all that Newport has to offer. We would definitely go back again.

We stay here when coming up for thanksgiving each year. They need to do better winterizing. I have a small thermometer on my bag which sat by the door slider inside and the temperature was 58 on the floor. the units are older but work for us as we just need a place to sleep. Newport is pretty quiet this time of year.
