“Clip Joint in Disguise”

So, you think that by booking a room in an exclusive area, with a prestigious sounding name, you'd be OK, huh? Think again.

The nightly room price covers only the bare minimums. I'm talking bare. Parking is an extra $20/day.

Want a refrigerator? I can buy room sized ones all day long for $99, but they will charge you $15/day for one. Even a Holiday Inn has a fridge for no extra charge.

Oh, and I ordered a fridge for $15/day...still waiting for it to be brought up to my room.

Great location. Crappy staff, especially the front desk. Power was out for nearly three hours last night. No storm, just crappy maintenance. Rooms are so-so. Not nearly enough power outlets.

I'd stay again if I didn't have to pay for parking and a refrigerator.

Room Tip: Good luck!

This hotel is in a great position just off Thames st. One night the ice maker machine on 3rd floor had a water leak and sent off fire alams. The fire brigade came and we were outside in night clothes at 3.ooam. Another day the elevators were out of order, a climb up the stairs when on 4th floor. On our last night, for 2hours 3.00am to 5.00am the 2 security guards stood and laughed loud and talked in the passage outside our room as it was next to the emergency exit and they were in and out of that door so many time obviously to go for a smoke. The room was very tired the chair upholstery was torn. The fridge was so noisey i've never heard a fridge so loud it was obviously old. Behind the bathroom door there were lots of black hairs which as my husband is bald and I'm blonde they must have been from the previous occupant. We left here 1 night earlier than we should have done. We would definitely not return to this timeshare.

The location is the best for exploring Newport. The free parking is ideal as it is almost impossible to find parking along the wharf! The staff went out of their way to help us, even going so far as to move their cars so we could have their parking spot.

As many reviewers stated, the pull-out sofa was awful. We had a party of three which I wouldn't recommend for this room. Two people would work out just fine, but I ended up sleeping on the sofa rather than pulling out the bed. The mattress was so thin and lumpy it was useless. Also, we heard people coming out of the bars at night which kept me awake. We finally turned on the wall air conditioner unit in the living room to drown out the noise.

One other thing, as the bedroom is at the back of the unit with no windows, it was very hot and stuffy. There is a vent system to turn on to try and suck the air from the living room back into the bedroom, but it wasn't the best.

The kitchen area was well stocked and the bathroom area was nice too. I liked having the bathroom sink outside as i could get ready while someone else showered. All in all, it was satisfactory and would stay there for the location alone.

My wife & I were here April 20-27th. We do have a timeshare here but have only actually stayed here a few times. This time the staff was the friendliest, most helpful ever! The room was very clean, there appeeared to be several upgardes and everything worked well. The Restaurant (separate from Inn) was excellent and priced decently. Remember this is Newport and all restuarants are pricey, esp if you want lobster...:-) Parking at the Inn is back-to-back, but the staff coordinates it very well, as far as we are concerned. It would be nice if the Inn would have more guest functions ( they had movies and a 1 hour cheese & wine at 3PM...????) Free coffee in lobby each AM but maybe some donuts or muffins???? Regardless, we do recommend the Inn on the Harbor!!!

Room Tip: Try, Try, Try to get a HARBORview room.........

OK. The positives are the location, free parking, and decent restaurant on site. This place is right on the wharf area of downtown Newport. From our room,(414) we had a nice view of the Newport bay and bridge. Being able to park and then walk was ideal for us. There are tons of great places to see, good restaurants, and great shopping all within walking distance of this resort. The onsite restaurant, The Port, has good food and friendly bartender. Their best deal was half price appetizers from 4:30-7:00pm. We ate well just doing that a couple nights. The not so good was check-in, room size, and lack of pool or jacuzzi. We couldn't get into our room before 6:00pm. I noticed there were other people in the lobby still waiting for housekeeping to finish their room after us. That is not acceptable in my book. For a timeshare exchange, I would have to say that this is the smallest room we have ever exchanged into. It was more like a hotel room with a fridge, stovetop, microwave and coffeemaker. Basic cooking supplies and No sharp knives to cut my lime for rum and cokes, though they had a maintainence guy bring me one when I called. Bed was comfy, and furniture ok,foldout sofa, but they had old style tube tv's with dvd/vcr player. Not that big for us, as we don't watch much tv. Wireless internet is free but not super fast. Free laundry room was a plus.Too bad there is no pool or hot tub. They tell you you can get a day pass for the local YMCA, but that is about 2 miles away. Overall we enjoyed our stay in Newport. This is not a fancy place, but it suited our needs.

On a whim we decided to check out the Mansions in Newport, RI. Okay, it was because we knew the Dark Shadows house (from the movies) was there and wanted to take a peek (a slight disappointment as we could only view it from the hedges...literally peeking...) However, we booked thru Booking.com the day before and unfortunately the hotel did not have our reservation. The ladies at the front desk were very kind and found us a room without any delay. The rooms are great with a usable kitchen that had all the necessary equipment for making a gourmet meal; however we opted to eat at the pub across the street. The bed was amazingly comfortable; we didn't want to get out of it.
One HUGE drawback, though...The walls are incredibly thin. We were privy to conversations immediately on arrival - I thought it was coming through the phones as well...It was a true disappointment, as our neighbors were early risers...
The fitness center is not onsite - you will have to travel to another facility.
All in all I would recommend this place to families and others who want to spend some time hanging out in a cute town.
