Jake Rojas is one of the most talented chefs here in RI. My husband, who travels around the world, has taken clients to Tallulahs, and these sophisticated, experienced clients who hail from around the U.S. and Europe have told him its one of the best meals they've ever had.
Yes, it is expensive. But remember, local organic produce is also more expensive, and the team there supports all the local beef, fish, vegetable, flower farmers within the state. So the cost is passed on to the consumer. It's a price, speaking for myself, I am willing to pay. Especially because I've shopped the local markets for years and want to support these folks.
Many of the best chefs in the US have realized that it is best to let quality ingredients speak for themselves so the dishes may seem as if not much has been done to it but that's not true at all.
We just had a staff Xmas party there. So delicious!
Listen -- Foie Gras PBJ with seasonal jam and peanut butter powder that melted in your mouth! Spoons containing tiny beets that looked like archery targets with goat cheese, hazelnuts, pickled cranberry and micro arugula - a party on a spoon.
People raved over the celeriac velouté which comes deconstructed so you see the treasures under the soup before its poured: gala apple, celery, brioche, and black garlic
Oxtail stew with homemade noodles that melted in your mouth!
Handmade local parsnip agnolotti ditto!
And the dessert we chose was incredible: roasted apple pecan crumble with vanilla ice cream and salted caramel crumble!!!!
Everything locally and in season!
Perfect (ok we are wine snobs so when I say perfect, believe me) wine pairings
Excellent, excellent service
Sweetest hostess on the planet
And if you want to sample the food cheaply, go to a farmers market and try the Tallulahs's Taco cart. For $3.00 you'll get the best chicken taco ( beef and fish available too)
