“Awesome location - spacious accommodations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

First time staying here. GREAT location - FREE Parking. Walk to shops, restaurants, wharf area!

Very spacious accommodations - we had a "town house" space / living room (with pull out sofa) - dining area - kitchen, with refrigerator / microwave / small dishwasher / sink / no oven or stove. Also a half-bathroom on first floor. Balcony off first floor.

Upstairs - two good size bedrooms - good closet space everywhere. Full bathroom upstairs. Also balcony off both bedrooms - pretty nice view.

Easily accommodated 4 of us / great coffee shop downstairs!! Good value split 4 ways! Would return!

Room Tip: Try the 4th floor!

Just spent out anniversary weekend in Newport and stayed at the Newport Bay Club. We were there off-season and got a great rate on their website (always check there for discount codes not listed on budget websites). My girlfriend and I were looking for something centrally located that wasn't a dump. We got this room for $140 before fees and taxes, which is a steal.

Pros:
Space & Decor (living room, kitchen (with granite), beautiful reclaimed wood ceilings)
Staff - we accidentally booked our reservation for two nights instead of one, and despite the fact we did not notice until the first night of our reservation had already passed, they did not charge us
Location - Right downtown, couldn't ask for more

Cons:
Thin walls/ceilings - we could hear other people in the hotel pretty clearly.

Definitely recommended for anyone looking for something more romantic than a standard Marriott/Hyatt room, but more practical and modern and a classic stuffy Newport Victorian B&B.

The hotel is right in the middle of downtown. Spacious living room, dining area and kitchen overlooking downtown Newport. Walk to everywhere! We went for St. Patrick's Day and the price was great, before the expensive summer season in Newport. The elevator was broken, but we stayed on the second floor, so it wasn't so bad. The suite was very clean and stylish, with wooden beam ceilings. We will definately stay here again. The hotel also has a private secured parking lot.

Room Tip: One the third floor there are balconies and the suites are very spacious.

The place is centrally located. That is the only good thing I can say. We arrived on Friday of a very busy weekend and the elevator was broken. They gave us a suite and we would have preferred a townhouse. We weren't even asked which one we wanted. The music in the bar downstairs was so loud, we couldn't sleep and the maid service did nothing but make the bed. I got better service at the Mainstay. For 199.00 a night, it was so not worth it!!!!

Room Tip: You can try one of the townhouses but I wouldn't recommend it!

First, the pluses: the location is perfect, right in the center of things in this magical town. Terrific restaurants, shopping for all tastes and economies, excellent galleries, many seafaring activities within an easy walk, with fabulous sightseeing and touring opportunities.
The hotel itself was a great disappointment considering the price we paid for a two-bedroom upstairs/downstairs unit. On the main floor, a small kitchenette with microwave, small refrigerator, small sink, and dishes/flatware for 6 people, but there was no stove or burners. A small dining area was right off the kitchenette. A small half-bath (no shower or tub) was situated near the main entrance. The living room was adequate for our purposes, and it had a pullout couch. In the middle of the first floor an open, wooden staircase led to the upstairs bedrooms, with a bathroom/large shower, with very nice toiletries. The bedrooms were small and cramped, but we managed. Being a top-floor unit, there were balconies on both floors that overlooked the beautiful downtown area, but the walls were so high (insurance/safety concerns?) that one had to stand up to see over the wooden wall. The interior decor was rustic in character, with lots of wooden beams overhead. Not a warm and comfortable atmosphere at all.
The negatives: one bathroom with shower is not adequate for 4 people, especially when a plethora of two bedroom/two bathroom units are available at many resorts in this town. Also, the same can be said of the kitchen area: most condo/style resorts offer at least a stovetop and microwave, and many have a full kitchen. When we arrived, the elevator "worked", but was very shaky and bumpy---not very reassuring on our way to the top floor. Upon checking out we were told that the elevator was not working, so we made the trips to the car on foot.
While we had a marvelous time in Newport, it was not enhanced by this hotel. It is in dire need of updating, with amenities that cater to the expectations of even the fairly-savvy traveler. Again, we expected higher quality and service for the price we paid. Recommended only for a short stay, and only if nothing else is available.

What a wonderful way to usher in the New Year at the Newport Bay Club. Loved our room, especially separate living room area with kitchenette. The views off the two balconies were spectacular. The balcony off the living room area gave great views of the city by the sea and the ocean. Although it was very cold, i can just imagine how beautiful in the warmer weather. There is another balcony upstairs outside the bedroom. Beautiful sunset. Room included continental breakfast which was convenient not to have to leave in the morning. Location is perfect for walking, and the added bonus of a parking spot in Newport is great. We lunched at the famous Brick Ally Pub, visited the mansions, and on New Years Eve had a wonderful time at Newport Playhouse including dinner, play and Cabernet. Snow covered Newport is simply magical and I would imagine a stay at Newport Bay Club in Spring or Summer would be perfect. Only downside is there is a spiral stairway to upstairs sleep area that could be a challenge to some guests.

My wife and I stayed for a long weekend and found this hotel very comfortable and inviting. Large rooms with a ton of space. We usually stay in an inn or B&B when in town but I will definitely check here first. Everything from restaurants to bars to coffee shops are all within a short ,short walk. The off street parking is KEY. It gets full on the weekends though but just talk to the front desk and they will help you out.
We had a great experience here and will be back.

Room Tip: Depending on how you book, ask what rooms are available and if you can upgrade when you check in.
