Owner description: The Firehouse Theater has become RI's most award winning comedy spot with their house group, The Bit Players earning the title of "Best Comedy Night" and "Comedy Troupe of the Year" multiple times. Hilarious improv performances, modeled after the hit show "Whose Line is it Anyway" can be seen EVERY Friday at 8PM & Saturday at 8PM & 10PM ALL YEAR LONG. Plus, they offer additional show times in the summer along with classes, workshops, and private parties all year. Every show is BYOB! Didn't miss a moment of funny. Laugh More.

“Dissapointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

We went to the Best Comedy Troupe show and found it dissapointing. The skit was more for the younger crowd. I think we were expecting a comedy show not a skit. I would not go back.

We are sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the show. To be clear for other readers out there: The Bit Players, our house comedy troupe performs an improvisation show much like the hit show "Whose Line is it Anyway". All of the Bits or games are completely improvised, they are not rehearsed like the "skits" or sketches you see on Saturday Night Live making our shows truly one of a kind and spontaneous. We do offer stand-up shows once a month which it sounds like you would enjoy more. Again, we apologize that our Bit Players show did not meet your comedy standards and hope you will come see one of our other shows in the future. As Newport's premeir comedy venue we pride ourselves on making sure we have something for everyone to laugh about.

“Bit Players are funny, but the crowd was not”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

Improv comedy feeds off of the energy and suggestions they get from the audience and, unfortunately, the audience at the encore 10pm show we caught was filled mostly with drunk frat boy types. There were very funny moments because the group is clearly talented, but they didn't have a lot to work with based on the suggestions being thrown out by the annoying crowd.

Thank you so much for your review! We appreciate your honesty and we are sorry to hear that you came on a night when the crowd was not at its best. We hope you understand that we have no control over the crowd and that some nights they are spot on with their suggestions and other nights they can be less than perfect. We are sorry that on this particular night the latter was the case and especially that this had an impact on your rating for our business. We do try to encourage the audience when great suggestions are offered and to ignore the bad, inappropriate, or offensive. At the end of the day we perform an audience-driven improv show and we can not foresee what will be yelled out from the crowd. Thank you, once more, for taking the time to write a review and we hope we have the chance to make you laugh again in the future.

“Funny , Funny and Funny”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

This very small home town theater is a blast. Not many extra's , no food etc., you are allowed to bring in your own drinks. Parking is a hard to find so allow extra time for this. Be prepared to laugh a lot, you will enjoy and have fun.

“Better than going to the movies.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

We had a choice of 007, Tom Cruise, Hobbits or the Firehouse Theater on a frigid Sunday night in December. The theater is small and painted black. We sat in the back and still felt close to the stage. My husband and I took our 12 and 13 year old son and daughter who would have prefered the adult version to the cleaned up 'family oriented' comedy. We all enjoyed the Bit Players and look forward to returning next time we are in Newport. They have BYOB and hot chocolate and tea. The performance was only ten dollars per person and it was a treat. There are not many family oriented activities in winter in Newport. Thanks Bit Players.
