“A must stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

My wife and me stayed two days in June in the Van Allan Room on the second floor. Already upon booking from Germany Daryl was extraordinary friendly and helpful. The Victorian house is impressing as are the beautiful guest rooms with selected antique furniture and the rooms open to guests (large living room, breakfast room and porch). Ivy lodge is situated in a quiet area off the main road but only 10 min walk from the waterfront or town center. Full breakfast is served from 8:30 a.m. on but hot drinks, fruits and toasts are available earlier. Darlene has been of exceptional help while booking online a ferry to Long Island the other day. The place is clean, quiet and we enjoyed a peaceful sleep although the house was fully booked. The weather conditions in the second night even allowed to sleep with open windows although the aircon prooved as very effective upon arrival (check if the windows are closed!). Overall this has been a great experience and we would have liked to stay longer if only our room had not been previously booked. Early booking is recommended, which is not surprising. Thank you Darlene and Daryl for the warm welcome and hospitality, making us feel at home.

Room Tip: Would think that the second floor is great, but as the house is so quiet, first floor seems also to...

This was our first stay at the Ivy Lodge. We stayed in the Library Room and it was lovely as well as extremely clean and comfortable. This room is the only one on the first floor and I would recommend it to anyone who has trouble with stairs. The place was fully booked but we heard no noise from our room. We had cocktails on the wrap around porch and walked into town for dinner on a beautiful summer evening. The Ivy Lodge is on a quiet street a couple of blocks away from the Elms mansion. Highly recommend.

Thank you for writing us a nice review. It means everything to us that you enjoyed your room and the Lodge. The Library room is a good alternative to anyone not wanting to walk-up stairs. That said, the second floor steps are not too challenging, those landings and wrap-round galleries make for easier access, even on our third floor. We hope to see you again one day.

Have a great Summer and stay cool,

This was a picturesque place to begin our visit of Newport, Rhode Island with our 3 granddaughters. The house had a unique atmosphere that the ten year old young ladies really wanted to explore. The rooms were nicely decorated and retained the feel of vintage days. The girls felt welcomed by the owners and explored the house early the next morning taking pictures of their favorite spots!
Breakfast was simple yet elegant. The hosts offered to make simple omelets for the children in place of more gourmet frittatas. The ivy theme decorated the patterns on the dishes and some of the walls. We enjoyed our day and night in this grand mansion that had the feel of a home from Harry Potter films!

It shows that the caretakers at the Ivy Lodge take pride in what they do. Upon our arrival and departure we were treated with class. The morning breakfast at the lodge are a must. The location was very peaceful away from the main road and only a ten minute walk to the water front.

We come to Newport every year, but this was our first time staying at Ivy Lodge. This B&B is located on a quiet street, a short driving distance to the waterfront. Since we booked our trip last minute, we had to stay in two different rooms (Van Allen and Victoria), both on the 2nd floor. The rooms were clean, air conditioned and nicely decorated. In addition, Van Allen room had a refrigerator and a sink (a big plus if you are traveling with a toddler, like us) and access to a narrow (standing room only) balcony. The dining room was open the whole day and guests have access to juices, cookies, tea, coffee and snacks. The breakfast is served from 8:30am to 10am and we found it to be delicious both days. It was eggs Benedict one morning and a Belgian waffle the next. There was also yogurt with granola, muffins, bagels and fruit salad available at breakfast time. The hosts (Darlene and Daryl) we very nice to our son and us, allowing us and our guests for a day to use the outside veranda for a family picnic. We brought our own pack-and-play, but when I realized that I forgot to bring bedding for it, Darlene provided a comforter and sheets. We had also asked for a late check-out and there were no problems with that (12pm). In all, we felt our hosts were accommodating and pleasant, room and bed comfortable and breakfast delicious. All of the above made our experience ever so enjoyable. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Van Allen is the only room that has a refrigerator in unit. It also has access to the balcony. We lo...

Hello! We have now got a refrigerator in the Victoria room as well! Thank you for you feed back, our staff works very hard to make sure the Ivy Lodge is up to our standards! We have been open as a bed and breakfast for 34 years so we have several generations which stay with us.
Thank you for staying with us and hope to see you on your next visit to Newport!

My husband and I came here on our honeymoon and it was the perfect place! Inside the bed and breakfast is absolutely breathtaking! Decorated in old victorian decor is beautiful! And Darlene the owner is such a delight! Even though we had been to Newport 4 times before we wanted to see the other things Newport had to offer since we have done the mansions many times and Darlene was so helpful by telling us what restaurants to try, what museums to go see and we were so grateful for her help! She made sure we had a great time and definitely took care of us! And the best part is it is unbelievably close to all the mansions! My husband and I would definitely stay here again! So worth it!!!

The Ivy Lodge is a very quiet and quaint b&b, we loved the location and the hominess. I have one suggestion though, the pillows although very full and plump were a bit difficult for me to sleep on. They didn't stay punched down and I felt that my head was elevated all night causing me some achiness. It would be nice to have a couple of varieties to choose from. Next time I would bring my own so I could get a more restful sleep.

Hello! Glad you like the Ivy Lodge, sorry about the pillows! We just put all new ones in for the season and they are medium firmness. Will pick up a couple of flatter pillows so guest can request them in the future. Thanks for the feedback!
Have a great summer and thank you for staying with us!
