“An inspired location with food and wine to match!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2011

Beautiful decor in the beach cottages, and decks right on the beach. The location brings the ocean right into your room! Order a room service breakfast eaten at your outdoor deck table or inside by the large windows and you experience an unsurpassable meal with a view!
Walk to your heart's content along Ocean Drive. Visit a mansion, just a few minutes away.
Enjoy dinner in the unique round dining room over the waves and have the agnolotti , a glass of dry Rose, then coffee by the fireplace in a beautiful authentically old New England treasure.
We had waited years to try Castle Hill and it surpassed expectations.

Room Tip: Try and end unit for maxium privacy.

My husband and I stayed at the Castle Hill Inn in September for three nights. Our superior beach house was clean and had everything we needed, including a small kitchen.
From our arrival to departure the staff's attention to detail was very impressive.
Once we had finished sunbathing on the private beach we relaxed on our decking with uninterrupted views of the ocean. Even though we had 'neighbours' everyone respected the need for quietness and the whole experience was really peaceful and relaxing. Whilst the walk from our beach house to the beach took only a minute or so, the terrain was rocky and may not be suitable for anyone with mobility restrictions.
The main hotel, a 5 - 10 minute walk alongside an inlet was very pleasant as was the lively outside bar which afforded a clear view of dramatic sunsets. There were two dining rooms and on one evening we dined in the more intimate of the two. The hotel has got the ambiance here just right and the head waiter (Brian) was very knowlegeable on the fare and wine options and made us feel comfortable and valued - the meal was excellent.
I would strongly recommend this unique accommodation experience which gave us the best of both worlds.

Room Tip: All beach houses were far enough away from the hotel and ensure privacy and quietness.

We are from New Jersey and very familiar with the Jersey shore but were looking for something a little different. We found it at Castle Hill. The corner beach house was a great accommodation, and exactly like the picture on their website. Lying in bed watching the ocean was a great experience will be back to enjoy again. The afternoon tea was a nice touch. We arrived late the first day so they served our tea in the beach house. We also had breakfast served on the deck in the morning. Great photo opportunities all over the grounds and the area in general. As an added benefit one of the days we were there the Queen Mary 2 moored off Newport Harbor and passed 100 yards from Castle Hill Cove. It's secluded yet 5 min. from the center of town. You can bike to Bellevue Avenue and get to see the mansions up close. We will definitely be back again.

Room Tip: There is no elevator in the main building so if stairs are not your thing go for the beach houses or...

We stopped here on our way from Nantucket to NY and I was so sorry we don't have more time to enjoy this beautiful place. We had very nice room with arch window and large bathroom. The hotel is very cozy and clean ...
Breakfast was superb with an amazing view. The trails around are very nice and the location with the wildness rocky cliffs around made it even stronger. This is the place I want to come back and enjoy the complimentary bikes and explore all around . We will be back for sure .

My wife and I went to Newport for a weekend away from everyone in mid-June. Castle Hill was recommended for its charm, privacy, and excellent restaurant. We booked "Mrs. Agassiz's" room, which is in the turret on the second floor. The room had very nice views of the bay, a gas fireplace, and very nice bathroom (oval bathtub and separate shower). On the first night, there was very bad fog, and thunderstorms in the area. Much to my dismay, I learned that the lighthouse right next to the hotel, which is owned and run by the Coast Guard, puts out a whistle every 7-10 seconds when the visibility is bad. Unfortunately, this adversely affected my sleep, as our room faced the lighthouse directly - keep this in mind if you are a light sleeper. Other than that, the restaurant was excellent, if a bit overpriced, and we were less than 15 minutes by car to the mansions. Overall a nice place, though I was a little put off by the response I got from the front desk about the lighthouse, which was a "sorry but we can't do much about it" sort of response.

We had adjoining cabins overlooking the ocean with private decks. The food was fabulous.
No problem with substitutions for those allergic to shellfish. There is a lovely attended private beach. You can hear the ocean waves crashing on the rocks at all times. It is very peaceful.
It was a wonderful experience. The wedding planners at Castle Hill were very accommodating.

Room Tip: Cabins overlooking the water are private and the decks are lovely. Private attended beach.

Arrived here and gave our name to a man on the gate, and were greeted by name at the door and reception: nice touch. Checked in and followed parking guy back 300 yards in his SUV to a bay outside our beach hut! Lovely room, decorated in New England style, largely white, with a big comfy bed, sitting area overlooking the beach and ocean, small kitchen with fridge, microwave, coffee machine and sink, bathroom with spa bath, a shower over and ocean view. Outside private deck with two rocking chairs and table, hammock. Short walk over dunes to hotel beach. Excellent fast wifi. Light in the morning as curtains & blinds not very effective. Turndown with chocolates at about 9pm, changes towels and makes up bed. Storage space is a bit lacking as the wardrobe shelf was full of spare bedding, leaving only 3 thin shelves and 2 bedside cupboards: luckily our suitcases fitted under the bed.
Breakfast was excellent, overlooking the water, with a full cooked menu. We also took advantage of the free afternoon tea between 3:30 & 5:00, sandwiches, biscuits & fruit, scone etc. - very nicely done.
The only drawback of this hotel is that it is about 3 miles outside Newport, which means driving out for an evening meal.

Room Tip: Go for a beach cottage
