This was my second stay at Castle Hill, and I enjoyed it just as much as the first! The inn is so beautiful and the location is superb. I do think the room rates are a little steep, but afternoon tea and a hearty breakfast are included. There really isn't any place like it, so I will keep going back!

We stayed on the Castle Hill Cottages 21 and 23 from a trip from NYC to Boston. The Cottages sit right at the beach and feature a deck that nearly hits the ocean. Definatly one of the nicest sites for a hotel in the newport area. the cottages are nicely layouted and worth the money.

We were recomended to the hotel´s restaurant, which was nicely said a desaster. The portogouise chef tried to to some sort of french-us cross over and you had to go with a 69-129 USD menu. We sticked with fish, which should be grilled but was killed in all the extra sauces. The waiters were standing in their own way and the whole szene seemed like a comedy play.

We recommend to stay in the cottage ( use WiFi for free ) , go out for food in some nice lobster place in newport and just enjoy the nature and scenic setting.

Just got back from a weekend at The Castle Hill Inn. Had a very good time. Fantastic views. Food there is great! Excellent service. The room was a bit pricey for what you get, but I suppose that's the way it is in New England in general and Newport is an expensive Area.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — Fantastic views, wonderful ambience
    • Disliked — Rooms could probably use a little sprucing up... considering that these are very expensive accomodations.

“I don't know if we'd go back”

Castle Hill Inn and Resort

We just stayed here 2 weeks ago, and our last trip (which is just 2 reviews down) was amazing! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and loved our stay.

This time, however, we requested an early check-in and were told that they'd note that we'd requested it, and we'd have to call to see if we could be accomodated. We arrived at midday and told our room probably wouldn't be ready until 3pm (the actual check-in time). It wasn't, and we got a phone call at 3pm to say it was ready - yeah, it HAD to be ready by then.

During our last visit we stayed in Beach House 33, this time Beach House 36 and it was bad! Firstly, it smelled bad. My husband immediately sprayed some cologne to make it tollerable. We weren't planning on spending a whole lot of time in the room, so we put up with it.

The following morning, however, our room smelt like raw sewerage. It was just disgusting. I felt sick and my husband and I actually rushed to get out of there. I spoke with the girl at reception just to get a very uninspiring, 'typical' response. She basically said "oh, I'm sorry to hear that", and that was it!! She also said maybe next time you'll get 31 or 37, the end houses - as if that was going to help me? I said that if I ever tried to book again, I would need to get room 33. She look at her books, saw we were repeat customers and pointed out that since we were repeat guests that 'we would be accomodated where we could" - I don't think I could EVER feel comfortable booking there, again, without a guarantee of getting a specific room! I would not put up with the smell of that room, and frankly am not prepared to try my luck for $1,000/night!

Lastly, when we checked in, we were given our confirmation for dinner that evening with our friends. However, when we arrived at the restaurant there was no such reservation. We were accomodated, but it actually happen the LAST stay too. Pathetic

For the price, my husband and I agree we doubt we'd return. They just do not care about their guests and their concerns, and when we compare it to past resorts we've visited, it's not worth $1,000/night!

I added a photo, just to add something postive, the view is great.

“Lovely place to stay”

On a last minute search, we found Catle Hill Inn online and called for a reservation. We got the only room for our date, the Chalet Suite which we needed because it is one of the few rooms to accomadate 3 persons. We chose this inn because it was only 45 minutes to Providence where we needed to be one afternoon, but wanted to take advantage of being near the ocean in the summer. I have mixed feeling about this inn. The room was lovely as well as the afternoon tea after our arrival. Check in was wonderful, a warm greeting at the gate and then an escort to our room. The Chalet Suite comes with its own parking place...wonderful right in front of the chalet. The privacy is a nice element too. The Chalet is short walk to the inn which brought us to wonderful lawn views and walks down to the beach. The staff was very friendly and willing to be of service. We had dinner at the inn one night , which I would hesitate to do again. It was chaotic, either not enough staff or the fact that they had two private parties at the same time overstretched them. The food was on par with a good resturant, maybe the large groups distracted from the ambience I expected. However breakfast is outstanding, a peacful lovely way to start the day, with gorgeous views, and excellant selections. Also, the Chalet rooms are over the events tent, we were told about before reserving for the room, but didn't realize how loud it would be. The televison and our Ipod music (the alarm clock in the room has a docking station!)helped to drown the noise out and it did end at 12:00am. I do not think I would stay in this room again during the summer months.Overall, the Inn is a wonderful place to stay and I respect the fact that it is privately owned and their committment to excellance keeps one of the most beautiful spots on the Eastern coast open for those of us who can afford the price of the trip up the hill.
