“a real gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

this mansion is one of the earliest ones in Newport. Really different as it predates all the others. Docent was great and gave good insights into the rise of Newport

“WE COULD LIVE HERE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2012

Unlike many of the other Newport Mansions that were built when "conspicuous consumption" seems to have been in vogue, Kingscote is a warm and comfortable home that we could actually image living in. It is elegant without being ostentatious. In fact, most of the rooms are very warm and homey. You can not visit this home on your own. You must take a tour. We visited in June when the tours were given every 30 minutes. It was a treat to see such a nice and well maintained home" If you have enough time or live in the area, the best deal is to become a member of the Preservation Society (only $75.00 for two adults or $90.00 for a family -- 2 adults and all children under 17). As a member, you can visit their 10 properties as many times as you want during your membership year.

“a special place among many mansions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2012

I'm glad we selected this as one of the mansions to visit. It's really in a different class as one of the oldest built and recently occupied mansions. The decor is much busier than others as it represents the time and style of the period it is from; and the personal touches of house recently lived in. Also, well presented history of the generations and extended family involved here.

“Lovely home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2011

Kingscote and others like it I consider to be the "smaller" mansions but still a great way to spend your time in Newport. They still have guided tours and not the audio ones of the larger homes which lends the touch of personalization you come to expect from a mansion tour. The stories from this home are fun and interesting and well worth waiting for the next group tour!

“One of the older summer homes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2011 via mobile

This was the second mansion we toured in May. The owner had a connection to the orient. There are beautiful Oriental pieces of artwork. The paintings, pottery, and furniture are wonderful. The diningroom has the most beautiful glass tile. We toured at the end of the day (as the sun was setting) it shown through the glass tiles they are the most beautiful color of blue. The Gothic gingerbread on the outside of the house is elaborate. Don't miss this one if you want to see something different.
