“Excellent food and drinks, low on atmosphere - ask for Will.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012 via mobile

The Rhino Bar is somewhat tucked away and risks being passed over in the shadow of nearby Forty1 North and Christie's. While I don't recommend spending an entire night here because there is no atmosphere to speak of, it is a terrific place to grab a bite to eat and a drink on a night-long crawl through town. I must give credit where it's due. Here's why:

1. Best Hendricks + tonic hands down, anywhere in the vicinity of Christie's Wharf. Also, about $5 cheaper than the ones served at Forty 1 North, which up-charges for the view to an almost ludicrous degree, thank you very much!

Now, for the carnivores among us...

2. The Rhino Burger (about $10) is unreal. The fries they serve with the burger are equally epic. I often share it with my boyfriend, it's definitely big enough for two.

3. The buffalo chicken nachos (also about $10) are out of this world! They feature blue corn nachos, black bean paste, blue cheese and lots of chicken in a spicy, tangy sauce. Again, this is a dish for two or more people.

Both numbers 2 and 3 are best enjoyed with the aforementioned Hendricks + tonic.

4. Bartender Will Calhoun is phenomenal. Step up to the bar, do yourself and your friends a favor and ask for Will; you are guaranteed to become happily tipsy with anything he's serving. He used to bartend at Christie's next door. He is a consummate pro, and a darn nice guy to boot.

So, full disclosure: the bathrooms are not the nicest. The space itself is seriously lacking in character. There is no view whatsoever, and with the ocean right outside the door, this is a bummer.

But the 1-2-3 punch of excellent food, drinks and staff keep us coming back, weekend after weekend.

“Maybe this food is delicious when you are drunk with the hunnies...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

This hot spot is great to go for the hookup scene. But the food is gross. A restaurant.com certificate motivated us to bust in there to belly up. With burgers that are were less than fast food quality, and fries that are too salty for even the drunkest frat boy, The Rhino ruined a free meal. And because of its dark, musty basement atmosphere, it's no surprise that at closing time most are headed home with that someone who isn't gonna look as great in the morning. Adults, stay away from the lure of this restaurant.com basement bargain. Your stomach will thank you.

“Yum Mojitos!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

They changed their drink menu since we were here last year. Was a little disappointing at first because I really wanted a Bacardi fish bowl. So i ordered a raspberry mojito. They were amazing!!!! There was a band that we really enjoyed playing too! Definately a must!!!

“good place for pub food in Newport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

good, cheap eats - not a very extensive menu, but what they have is well done, and very reasonably priced for Newport
