“Friendly staff but old hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

A dated hotel, we only stayed the night. Our room had a horrible smell what
seemed like weed. The front desk staff were good and offered to move us but
It was so late and we were only there for one night so we stayed. Our room was on
11th floor near the pool. It was very loud with screaming kids early in the morning.
It would be nice if the pool openned later or if staff checked in to ensure the noise
level is appropriate.

Room Tip: Do not get room near pool unless you like to be woken up to screaming kids.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to complete an online survey. I would like to apologize that your room was not up to the Hyatt Standard upon check in. This is unacceptable and I will discuss this with our Housekeeping Manager and the staff member that was assigned to your room. Also, we recently changed the pool hours to open at 9am rather than 6am due to noise. Please feel free on your next visit to request a room not on the pool floor and we will be more than happy to accommodate your request. Thank you for your valuable feedback. It is through your comments that we are able to improve.

Someone has put some money into this downtown Buffalo hotel, and the improvements are noticable, but this Hyatt has a ways to go. Yes, renovations are appearant in the lobby and in the rooms, but the attention to detail, the remaining wear and tear, and poor level of service greatly outweighs the positives.

The rate was competitive, and the hotel is one of the few in downtown Buffalo that accepts pets at a reasonable fee. We used Hyatt's online pre-check-in, and as a result, were able to avoid the very long check-in line when we arrived. Valet parking is $23 per evening, and that service was actually the best we received during our whole stay.

Our room was to include a roll-away bed - it wasn't in the room on arrival, and despite a specific follow-up call to request it from the front desk, the roll-away never actually showed up in our room!

We thought we were using a fully-functioning refridgerator - it had no controls, so we had to assume it would be safe to put our perishables inside. Unfortunately, we later discovered it wasn't working at all.

The room itself was renovated - new bathroom, carpet, bedding (although the bed was too soft), carpet, furniture, television, etc. But, there were lots of small but quite noticable things still looking very worn and not nice in the room - scratched, marred cabinets, beat-up old door with poorly functioning locks, light switch face plates with missing screws, a bad cold draft along the floor, etc.

Unfortunately, upon check-out, no one on the front-desk staff cared enough to ask us about these poor experiences ... until, as mentioned before, the valet asked! He couldn't really do anything, so we didn't bother to clue him in.

Ultimately, if there's not a pet in your traveling party, there are several better options for mid-level accommodations in downtown Buffalo. In the meantime, I hope the Hyatt folks start to pay more attention to this property - further investment, combined with continued improvement in attention-to-detail and service, is desparately needed.

I stayed here for a convention and it was the perfect choice. Pretty big rooms, connected to the convention center, and close to restaurants and entertainment. Great steak house in the lobby. Best place to book if going to Buffalo for a convention.

Stayed for the annual Disco party. Hotel had a special rate and it is the closest to the Convention Center. Service was flawless. Room was large and comfortable. Forgot toiletries. Front desk sent up a disposable razor, shaving cream, and deodorant at no charge.
Only downside, the connection to the Convention Center is closed for the Disco party, so it's a walk outside to get to the Centre.

I stayed at this hotel for a convention and it did the job. Valet parking was quick and service was correct. The rooms were huge and the beds were comfortable. There was a charge if I wanted luggage/exhibition banners carried over to the adjacent convention centre of 10 dollars. I think it was the time it took to walk over there. I probably would not stay here if I was here for private reasons as the downtown area seems a bit rough.

Hotel is a bit of a mixed bag. Valets out front, very nice lobby but rooms are average. Hallways on room level were dimly light and a bit dreary. Internet service was good and was able to work well in the room. Steak house is great and the lobby restaurant was good. Staff was very cordial, polite and helpful. Would stay here again.

This hotel has a lovely lobby. Very good service at check in and out. Desk personnel were very friendly.
The room/bathroom was average at best. The king bed was very soft and "springy". I think that's because its on a box looking frame that actually appears to be queen size - the sides of the king overhang the base on both sides - so when my husband rolled over, I took a flight.

The bathroom was not at all updated. The tub plunger was sitting on the side of the tub - yuck! There is a flat screen LG T.V. which would be nice if you wanted to watch TV. We were there for the Sabres game and fortunately spent very little time in the room.

Next time I think I'll try the Embassy Suites.

Room Tip: The pool is on the 11th floor. If you want to use it, then I'd ask for that floor.
