Owner description: Buffalo Central Terminal hosts a series of events and tours throughout the summer months. Plan your trip to see us by visiting our website for a full list of upcoming events, tours, and other information. The Buffalo Central Terminal opened to the public on June 22, 1929. Built by the New York Central Railroad and designed by architects Alfred T. Fellheimer & Steward Wagner, the art deco style station was built to accommodate up to 3200 passengers per hour, or 200 trains per day. The complex consists of the main concourse, a 17 story office tower, a four story baggage building and two story mail building along Curtiss Street, and the now detached train concourse. The complex sits on a 17 acre site 2.5 miles east of downtown Buffalo. The Central Terminal Restoration Corporation (CTRC) was founded in 1997 to oversee the stabilization and restoration of the Central Terminal. Local preservationist Scott Field acquired the 18-acre site, including concourse, tower, and four story baggage building along Curtiss Street, from Samuel Tuchman and B.C.T Inc. for $1 plus the assumption of back taxes owed to the City of Buffalo. The CTRC is an entirely volunteer organization with no paid staff. We rely on grant money, government funds, and donations to continue work on the building and to hold public events. We are a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation.

I would really love to see the place returned to her regal past. They are on the right path in fixing it up. Will be quite a showplace when they are done. So much history.

“It's Getting there”

Most people talk about the downtown renaissance in Buffalo but I am waiting for this private venture to be completely renovated. The Railroad hobby people do not have federal funding and are doing this by themselves.

“WOW! Worth A Trip To Buffalo All On Its Own”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

The trsut which is devoted to restoring this architectural gem deserves great praise and support. We happened upon this tour while in Buffalo for a Frank Llyod Wright Tour and as good as the FLW day tour was this trip to the Central Terminal eclipsed it easily. The guide (Marty) was great and masterfully marshalled the huge crowd that gathered for this opportunity through the grounds and the building masterfully and wove the stories surrounding this building in a very engaging way. 3000 people an hour passed through this building at its peak of operations. The collapse and decay is alarming but it is good to see such dedicated volunteers who are determined not only to preserve this historic gem but to revitalize it - there appears to be great potential here. The building is massive and its tower can be seem even on your approach to the city. The various stories that surround the building include mob connections which another volunteer relayed while decked out in period dress. The fee was $10 and for that you got a wonderful 3+ hour tour. The gift shop was really neat as well. I cannot recommend this place more highly.

“An excellent side trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

If you're visiting Buffalo (and its a wonderful city to visit), please stop by the Central Terminal. While its in a depressed neighborhood, its just outside the downtown core and if you like architecture, this building will inspire awe. The size of it -- includng outbuildings -- will amaze you, and what I couldn't get over was the granite in the PARKING LOT! There is a feeling of the history that surrounds it and its a photographer's dream. The last time (of several trips) I was there the sky was HUGE, and the multi-colored clouds behind the tower made an outstanding picture. I signed up to help restore it and I can't wait to get to work on it!
