Its first interment took place in 1849; today there are more than 157,000 permanent residents in this 269-acre, non-denominational, non-sectarian, not-for-profit cemetery. Forest Lawn offers year-round guided tours, educational programming, flag retirement ceremonies for scouts, special veteran programming and so much more. “As far as cemeteries go....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

This is a beautiful cemetery with a lot of history. You could catch one of their tours and "meet" some famous people as the tour goes through the cemetery.

Thanks Connie B. Forest Lawn is one of the few cemeteries in the country that use tours, programs and concerts as a way to connect to the community. Our regions history lies within our gates. We have so many stories to tell!

“Nice”

School children tour the cemetery during the spring. It is a nice way to spend an afternoon. Much to see, expect to go back

We have many educational topics with our programming for children of all ages! Young and old enjoy the beauty and serenity of this special place. Look at some of the new artwork around the chapel area when you visit again.

“Who knew a cemetary could be so beautiful?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Spend hours here, in any weather, and wonder at the beauty of the landscape architecture as well as the fascinating gravestones. This feels more European than American in the scale and romantic feel--the Olmstead garden touch. Have a picnic, or come on a drizzly day for a moody walk. It is so big you can be largely alone to wander through history.

Yes, it is easy to "get lost" when walking throughout Forest Lawn. Part of the landscape was designed by the acclaimed cemetery landscape designers Adolph Stauch and Joseph Earnshaw.
Today we are in the midst of a landscape renewal plan where we will replace many of the trees that were lost during the October storm.

“dying to get in”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

History, serenity, geography... Forest Lawn has it all, about as unusual a tourist destination as God ever put on earth (actually, with the help of design by urban planner F. L. Olmsted (sp?).... Sites are well-marked and the Millard Fillmore remembrance Jan. 7 is a holy day of obligation for many... chapel, site of several dramatic and musical presentations, is a lovely retreat... god's waiting room is heaven on earth...

“A wonderful (yes wonderful) place to spend a Sunday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

Despite the fact that this is a cemetery, Forest Lawn offers much more than a gloomy place. There are many important and well known people buried in this cemetery and there are tours offered that are both imaginative and creative that take you to these burial sites. Actors dress up as characters and meet your trolley (or walking tour) and then offer a talk about the history of the deceased person. Very informative and enjoyable. There are also other tours, along with beautiful areas to bike and walk. If you are around during the summer, don't miss the tours. If you want to take a nice walk any other time, go to Forest Lawn Cemetery.
